BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – Patients seeking medical care at Coastal Family Health Center locations across the Coast now have more flexibility and time to see a doctor.
By expanding hours at the clinics, Dr. Wendy Williams says her staff will be able to see more patients.
“You can get in before work, you can get that visit done or whatever test that you’ve been needing to have done,” she said.
Williams says it’s more than just convenience.
“It just allows those kids who need those physicals or have ADHD or something like that, that they need to be seen regularly. They’re not missing school all the time,” Williams said.
Coastal Family Health Center officials say their locations see close to 37,000 patients a year.
A $500,000 dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is funding the expanded hours. That money will also allow the pediatric center in Biloxi to open its doors half the day on Saturdays.
“It will be an extra day there for me, half a day, but it’s okay. We’ve done it before in the summer, and the patients love it,” Williams said.
“We’ve tried to do it in the past, and it just never kind of took off, and so when the federal government said, ‘Hey, we want you to stay open a little bit longer,’ we said, okay, we’ll make that happen,” she said.
The extended hours are effective this week at the clinics in Biloxi, Gulfport and Saucier.
