Upstate hospital’s $2.4M ‘mission control’ works to speed up patient wait times in hidden ways: From Carrier Circle, a team of Upstate staffers monitor the ebbs and flows of patient care at University and Community General hospitals. This “mission control” room, as hospital CEO Dr. Robert Corona describes it, expanded earlier this year into its new $2.4 million home. It now has 28 workstations and 22 live-feed monitors. The goal is to identify bottlenecks and speed up patient care.

Carmelo Anthony will be Syracuse University’s 2025 commencement speaker: Former Syracuse men’s basketball star Carmelo Anthony will be the school’s commencement speaker this year. Anthony played only one season of college basketball for the Orange but made it into what may be the best one-and-done season in the history of college basketball. Anthony’s commencement speech will come shortly before his son, Kiyan, begins his freshman year at Syracuse.
Environmental groups say public needs more time to review huge Micron report: A coalition of Central New York environmental and social action groups wants the public to get more time to review the massive document outlining the potential impacts from Micron Technology’s planned chipmaking plant in the town of Clay. The group is also calling for at least five public hearings to be held.
NY prisons look to release some inmates early as staff shortages persist: New York’s state prisons are looking to release inmates convicted of non-violent crimes up to 110 days early as a response to the “current staffing crisis,” the prisons commissioner wrote in a memo. The decision is meant to strike a balance between the safety of those working and living in correctional facilities and public safety.

Party in the Square: Syracuse concert series to support a good cause: The lineup for a series of summer concerts that will benefit a fund to provide instruments and music lessons to students in need has been finalized.The 10 events include six installments of the Party in the Square, which are Friday night concerts held in July and August in Clinton Square. Could a 17-year-old start for the Orange football team in the fall? Demetres Samuel Jr. is just turning 17 years old this week, but the Florida native graduated high school more than a year ahead of schedule and managed to enroll early at Syracuse for the spring semester. On Monday night, SU coach Fran Brown said that Samuel should start at cornerback for the Orange next season, and he also expects him to contribute immediately on offense.
