The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has published a list of countries with which the United States has cooperated in the extradition of persons suspected of criminal offenses, among which is Kosovo.
Kosovo’s inclusion on this list comes after the extradition of brothers Ardit and Jetmir Kutleshi, 26 and 28 years old, who were arrested as part of a suspected cybercrime network.
Both are citizens of Kosovo and were wanted by US authorities in connection with an illegal website, known as “Rydox”.
“The Criminal Division’s Office for Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT) has also provided assistance with extraditions from Kosovo,” the DAD statement said.
According to the Department of Justice, “Rydox” was a site involved in the sale of stolen personal data, illegal access tools, and other equipment used for cybercrime and financial fraud.
In addition to the Kutleshi brothers, authorities had also identified a third administrator of the site, Shpend Sokoli, who was arrested in Albania by SPAK – the Special Anti-Corruption Body. He is expected to face charges in Albania.
The list of countries with which the US has cooperated on extraditions also includes countries such as Canada, Colombia, and Germany, while Kosovo’s inclusion is considered an important step in international cooperation against organized and cybercrime.
