Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has called a meeting of the Kosovo Security Council to discuss Serbia’s influence. After the meeting, the Government issued a statement saying that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is trying to monitor the crisis from his country in Kosovo. The statement also noted that there are MPs from non-majority communities who are being lured, threatened or blackmailed by Milan Radoić.
The Kosovo government has criticized Serbia and its President Aleksandar Vučić for obstructing the constitution of institutions after the February 9 elections.
On Sunday, at the request of the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, the Kosovo Security Council held a meeting, after which the Government, through a statement, accused Vučić of trying to turn the internal political crisis into a political and security crisis in Kosovo and the region.
“At the same time, Serbia is exerting unprecedented pressure on Kosovo Serbs to participate in the rally of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, in Belgrade, which has been announced for next week. Vučić’s regime is aiming to export the crisis to Kosovo and beyond, while it itself is in the biggest crisis ever,” the Government statement says.
The statement also states that shortly before the constitutive session of the Parliament, Serbia is interfering with several MPs from non-majority communities, luring and blackmailing them, as well as aiming to incite interethnic tensions.
Last week, the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement announced that he intends to vote for the Kurti 15 government in the constitutive session on April 3.
“Serbia is now interfering with some of the deputies of the non-majority and non-Serb communities in order to sabotage the establishment of the new institutions of the ninth legislature. With threats and enticements, and especially with blackmail, it is trying to incite interethnic and inter-party tensions in Kosovo and destabilize Kosovo. This represents a flagrant interference in the state sovereignty, democratic functioning and institutional integrity of our country,” the statement says.
From Sunday’s meeting, where, according to the Government, Serbia’s destabilizing plans were discussed, the case of the arrest of four Serbs in the Municipality of Gjakova for illegal possession of weapons on Saturday night was also mentioned.
According to the Government, two of them held positions in Serbia’s security structures.
“On April 1st, after midnight, the Kosovo Post Office in Zvecan was attacked with two hand grenades, one of which exploded. The Post Office in Zvecan has been fully repaired and public services are now being provided there normally. When we add to this the arrest last night of four Serbian ‘pilgrims’ in Gjakova – one of whom was a lieutenant in the Serbian police and the other a captain in the Serbian army, and everything that was confiscated from them – it is required that all state institutions and mechanisms maintain high attention and readiness,” the statement says.
In Gjakova, based on a police report, four people were arrested on Saturday.
They were driving a car with Serbian license plates and, according to the Police, two knives and an axe were seized during the search. The fourth person was taken into custody.
