Anybody want to remind them the SCAs were retired 13 years ago and cannibalized for parts? They’re museum pieces now just as much as *Discovery* is.

Sounds cost effective. I wonder if they want it to do an orbit first?

As the article states: “According to a news release from Cornyn’s office, the Space Shuttle Discovery is owned by the federal government. It is currently in the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia.”
So, maybe Discovery — *which is owned by the federal government* — should remain in the federal government’s museum dedicated to air & space(?) — one that attracts visitors from all over the world, not just the U.S.(?) What a weird idea. /s

Hey Texans, is this your highest priority for your elected officials right now?

If you’ve ever seen this craft in person, you know how beautifully it’s displayed, it just couldn’t have been done better IMO. Republicans really are out to screw up as much as they can, what evil jerks.

It makes sense to relocate a lot of pieces concentrated in museums around the DC region and disperse them throughout the USA.

Really.
As opposed to the Smithsonian Institute?
Annual visits –
* Johnson Space Center: **1.3 million**
* Smithsonian Air and Space Museums: **3.1 million**
Texas didn’t pay for the shuttle, senators. The people of the United States of America did, and the greater number of Americans will be served by hosting the shuttle at the Smithsonian. By more than a factor of two.

He should loan the Space Shuttle Discovery to Cancun, since he’s shown a preference to Mexico over his own state.
Can your “rightful home” really be a place you’ve never been?

Fucking let them have it, I don’t care anymore. This country sucks.

I’m chaining myself to that space shuttle before I let Ted fucking Cruise drag it to Texas to stroke his ego.
I live near the Air and Space and love Discovery to death and the entire space hall at Udvar Hazy is almost exclusively dedicated just to storing discovery. Stealing it from a national museum would rip out one of the most important exhibits from Udvar Hazy leaving almost no space representation behind. Just missiles and a few models and capsules. That would be like removing the Apollo 11 capsule from the DC museum. It’s the centerpiece to an entire exhibit.
The space shuttle is a MASSIVE draw. Also what the fuck is Houston gunna do with it? How are they getting it there? Traveling with it just risks further damage and undoes a bunch of preservation work.
Also when people visit the US they typically visit THE CAPITOL, by way of THE DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT next to UDVAR HAZY! Why are we removing a symbol of national pride from a national museum!?!?
What will he plunder next? Why not steal Atlantis from Florida while he’s at it?

It’s a nice display where it is. This would be a waste of money to relocate it

Really? A lot more people will see it at the Smithsonian than in Texas.

Leave it to Cancun Cruz to waste our time and tax dollars on something completely unimportant that 99.99999% of Americans don’t give two shits about

They’ve got a Saturn V, they should be satisfied with that.

They’d better move it quick, in between winter TX electrical grid failure season and summer TX electrical grid failure season.

Why is Houston its “rightful home”? I’m pretty sure no space shuttle has ever been in Houston.

Good luck getting it there, the transport aircraft has been retired too.

Take Endeavour instead, Houston got hosed on that one.

At least they’re focused on the important issues facing the country.
I don’t know, next time there’s a major storm event he’ll be volunteering for the next space mission
Houston has one of the 747s with a mock Shuttle ([the Shuttle Independence](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle_Independence)) on top of it.
They don’t need another one.
