    3. What’s the point? Ah. from reading the article, it comes from Unesco.

      Where will it end? The FA Cup, the Old Firm Derby, every national competition in every sport from yachting to tiddlywinks? Maypole and Morris dancing in every town or village? Eid and Easter, and Passover and Christmas? Diwali and Guy Fawkes night?

      The government is desperate to save money and this will tie up at least two civil servants for at least a year, with ongoing costs for software and databases but it is a Unesco directive that we signed up to so we’d best get on with it.

      But what’s the point?

      Although the Carnival was there before them.
