Lesson learned. Don’t steal a canoe when drunk, high and you can’t swim.

“free spirit” – is that what we are calling a pissed up pothead that engages in criminal activity that ends up killing him now?

I used to live in Cardigan. That river has claimed a few lives. Tidal stretch with crazy currents under the water.

  4. “Mischievous” and “free spirited” are very generous ways to describe someone who got drunk and stole someone’s kayak.

I doubt the owner of the kayak would have seen it that way.

Would the same language would have been used if he’d stolen someone’s car and crashed it? Does the lower value of the kayak change it from a crime into simple mischief? Perhaps it’s just modern-day srumping.

His family called him a free spirit, they aren’t going to start slating him and calling him a criminal are they

Let’s not dwell on the language. Someone died. That’s sad. We want judge them by one stupid act less we all be judged by the multiple stupid acts we all have committed.

No doubt the guy bought joy to many lives. Sorry he has gone.

I can be bothered with the moral high ground people always try to take with news articles of shitty people dying from doing shitty things.

He played the dickhead, gambled and lost.

All I gathered from it and all I ever need to know, but god forbid I hope the owner of the Canoe doesn’t get blamed somehow as it’s usually the way with some of these stories.

Life long thug criminal who dies = a true angel

XL bully who rips a child to death = loving dog who wouldn’t hurt a fly

Stoner criminal who dies committing a crime = free spirit

What timeline are we living in?

Idiot criminal died after stealing a canoe and going on.a booze and drug fuelled bender

  10. A lot of negative comments here, but I don’t believe that that man meant any real harm. I’m sure he was a nuisance, but I think he was just eccentric, not criminal.

Can see why redditors are so against drink, don’t have the imagination for it.

Will he turn up in three years on a real estate website advertising property in Panama?

I honestly can’t believe the lack of empathy here. Hope none of you ever make a mistake. RIP lad

You don’t get to whitewash theft by a drunk by calling him a “free spirit”.

If you die doing something stupid and illegal does it warrant more or less sympathy?

The guy was 24 jeeez – from the picture he’s looking like he’s knocking on 40/50

‘Free spirit’? same as ‘helpful and kind kid’ who stole electric bike to steal gets hit by a bus

  18. All this pointlessly mean comments here speak volumes to how hateful this sub has become. Cool you can hate criminals we all don’t like them.

But thinking someone who stole a canoe deserves to die and you don’t need to have shred of empathy for them is a bit too far.

Your all so typing on your phones or computer you end up becoming just horrible people.

This entire sub has just become a cesspit of hate and anger.
