ROCKFORD, Ill. — Jobseekers eager to learn more about green energy gathered at a local event where numerous employers came together in a one-stop shop to help residents explore the growing clean energy sector and what it means for large manufacturers in the Stateline area.
Among the event’s key participants was Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois, which is currently offering a clean energy program aimed at expanding access to green careers.
“It’s important to raise awareness about this program, because it really is providing a great amount of opportunities to people in underserved communities who historically wouldn’t have access to opportunities like this,” said Jessica Green, Clean Energy Navigator Lead at Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois.
Attendees had the chance to connect directly with employers, learn about industry trends, and explore potential job opportunities in solar energy and other renewable technologies.
One attendee, Harold Foster, who is considering a new career in the clean energy field, emphasized the importance of accessibility.
“It allows the individual who has transportation difficulties to get here as well as have numerous opportunities to talk to different employers,” he said.
“You get a chance to talk to different companies concerning different solar energy deals, and it’s been real nice.”
