Tommy Cash – “Espresso Macchiato” (Estonia Eurovision 2025)

Review: Tommy Cash – “Espresso Macchiato”

Jonathan: There’s certainly a quirky charm to “Espresso Macchiato” that puts a smile on your face. However, when you strip that away, the core product is rather underwhelming. The production is lacklustre and feels almost like an afterthought. Meanwhile, the melody is so repetitive that it’s close to crossing the line from catchy to irritating. There are ways to create fun songs about delicious beverages that still stand as quality songs in their own right (anyone order a milkshake?). Sadly, this one does not live up to Tommy Cash’s internationally-recognised standards.

Ruxandra: One thing I really love about Eurovision is the wide variety of songs — it’s a mix of deep tracks and others that are just meant to bring the fun (like this one). So, why so serious? It’s not always about having the strongest vocals in the contest, but about choosing a song that suits your voice and delivering on stage. When you have a song that’s meant to be a parody, you have to know how to entertain. It’s fun and it’s catchy, which for sure was the purpose of the whole song. It’s about being a singer and an entertainer, too.

Pablo: I am a staunch supporter of the funny and the camp. That being said, “Espresso Macchiato” has virtually nothing redeemable. In the mocking arrogance of believing you can show up and take the whole thing with an unappealing, hastily done song, there’s an air of pretentiousness to this that turns me off instantaneously. There’s no charm or wit to the lyrics or the music, yet there’s the feeling no one is allowed in on the joke but you, and it’s just to laugh AT the listeners. It all leaves me with a tough, but fair question. Do you like being a part of Eurovision? Because everything about this package makes me believe the opposite.

Tomas: At first, I didn’t like it, then I listened more and it became catchy, a little bit later it became even more catchy. This is what I call the definition of guilty pleasure. This is such a simple song with very well and thought-through lyrics. It’s as if the songwriters asked: “what will connect the most to an international audience?” The answer: coffee & Italy. Thank you Tommy Cash for bringing another performance that will be engraved in the history of Eurovision as one of the most fun three minutes in the contest’s history. I’m all here for it, let’s dance!
