GLASGOW, Ky. (WBKO) – Residents of Barren County frequently traveled to Bowling Green for treatment at the Med Center Health campus. However, a closer option is now on the horizon.
Med Center Health is set to open its brand-new 22,000-square-foot facility in Barren County on Monday, April 28.
According to Laura Belcher, Vice President of Planning and Development for Med Center Health, a significant number of individuals were making the trip to Bowling Green for diagnostic services.
Belcher noted that 34,750 patients from Glasgow and Barren County sought outpatient services at a Med Center Health facility. These services included mammograms, lab work, and physical therapy, but did not include physician office visits.
The new facility will offer several specialty services, including cardiology, general surgery, neurosurgery, sports medicine, and gynecology.
Family physician Dr. Jeffrey Purvis believes that offering this type of care to more rural areas will provide long-lasting benefits for many.
“You have so many other specialties here besides family medicine,” Dr. Purvis said. “Before, you had to send them to Bowling Green, and now we can send them down the hall. So I think it’s a lot more convenient for the patient. I think it’s a win-win.”
Dr. Purvis emphasizes the crucial role of having access to a reliable medical facility.
“Access to care is if you have a sudden medical problem, or you have a need for ongoing care and for a chronic condition,” Dr. Purvis said. “You need someone you can rely on, who knows you, who has taken care of you before.”
Scheduling an appointment can be done through a simple text message or by calling the new facility.
