I always thought that it was oranges for my country, now I’m disappointed

  2. Most of these fruits originated in China or central Asia (apples). Tomatoes are from South America obv.

Wait Greece makes more peaches than olives???

*googles* they make 380,000 tonnes a year… But they produce 3,240,063 tonnes of olives every year.

So this map is wrong. And don’t tell me “oh it’s colloquial fruit” because tomatoes are on here and no one calls those fruit unless they’re about to share a fun taxonomic fact.

    This is plain wrong.
The Netherlands is producing a gargantuan amount of tomatoes: 1 million tons per year, 52 kg per inhabitant vs 5 kg consumption, so it’s supplying half of Europe. Pears on the other hand we make “just” 82000 tons.

  5. Fun fact: Italy is the largest producer of kiwi fruits in the world, even larger than New Zealand.

The misspelling of tomatoes in the map followed by the misspelling of tomatoes in the top comment is unreasonably annoying.

more Apples than Oranges in Italy? I know it is Apples in the North and Oranges in the South but still surprising

  10. There is no way grapes are not the most produced fruits in the Mediterranean countries. I’d even guess olives are more than apples too.
