MICHIGAN,. (WPBN/WGTU) — House Republicans are advocating for a change in zoning authority concerning large-scale green energy projects, including solar initiatives.
The proposed update would return the final approval of these projects to local governments.
Currently, under a 2023 law, the state holds the ultimate decision-making power.
This law was enacted when the House was under Democratic control and was designed to address significant local opposition to major projects, which some argue is a substantial barrier to the state achieving its energy goals.
The proposal now advances to the Senate for further consideration.
