First by-election test for Keir Starmer and he failed that 🤦‍♂️, how long did it take Tony Blair?

  2. Useful_Resolution888 on

By six votes. I bet there’s a few people that will be regretting their choices today.

  3. Danielharris1260 on

By elections are usually bad for the governing party but losing one of your safest seats albeit by 6 votes does not bode well for Labour at all. But I just know many will ignore and try and spin it.

  4. Optimaldeath on

I thoroughly look forward to Labour learning absolutely nothing and reading the pre-written spiel their PR firm has concocted.

Would vastly prefer them to not just cynically wargame surviving a three/four way fight they will surely lose and actually care about holding at least some genuine conviction for fighting for their constituencies.

85 votes rejected with a six vote majority, can’t see this ending here

Well Brexit was a roaring success and those guys mates are doing a cracking job over in the states so its easy to see why Reform would cruise to victory.

Oh no wait. People are stupid.

  7. momentum4lyfe on

Omg what is this country doing? Seriously, have people learned nothing?? Reform winning anything is a joke. Farage is a fascist in a suit and somehow people still fall for his crap.

Brexit wrecked the economy, and that was all him and his crew. Now they want more of the same, but worse? It’s like people want the country to be a right-wing mess like America. It’s voting for more hate, more lies, and more chaos.

We don’t need Reform, we need people to wake the hell up.

  8. StephenHazza0651 on

Add into the mix Islamic candidates in urban areas, Labour really need to wake up re 2029.

They have the threat from Reform now, they also have the threat from pro Palestine, hardcore Muslim candidates threatening seats like Wes Streeting’

  9. Reform will continue to grow until Labour gets a grip on the migrant boat crisis, it’s as simple as that

A minor issue nationally compared the welfare cuts yes, but it’s a not a minor issue to a lot of the traditional Labour and Tory voters

In my area which has several migrant hotels and towns and communities which have seen the negative effect of them massively for years now, it’s a major talking point politically.

We’re heading toward Farage as prime minister unless someone gets a grip on it

Just think how much Labour would’ve won by if they were pro-trans, recognised Palestine and doubled down on climate change

I’m forever told that this is what the electorate is most passionate about, so it must be true

I’m a constituent here, i’ve always voted for labour, i couldn’t bring myself to do it this time. I voted green. The labour party can’t take our votes for granted here anymore. The people are desperate for real change and improvements to our lives, it doesn’t surprise me they’ve looked to reform.

  12. ServoSkull20 on

Great. Congratulations to Labour for piddle arsing around on subjects that the voting public feel strongly about, so we now get this collection of rampant bastards with more power.

  13. martymcflown on

Another small win for Putin. A vote for Reform is a vote in support of Putin’s Government. The British populace continues to prove that they are the easiest to manipulate. When Reform are voted into power and the shit hits the fan, Brits will again blame anyone but themselves (most likely foreigners again).

  14. Overturned nearly a 15,000 majority in under a year. Starmer better get a move on.

  15. bluebottled on

Good. As much as I hate Farage and Reform, Starmer’s Labour isn’t going to win another election cosplaying Cameron’s Tories. They might not listen to the message from voters but at least it’s been sent.

  16. Ex-art-obs1988 on

Labour were warned about the growing unease over immigration and as per usual of the big parties they chose to ignore the general public.

Reform is only wining elections because of their anti immigration policies, nothing else.

Labour need to take a hard stand on immigration, start deporting those that don’t have a right to be here and correct the issue with our judicial system that treats immigrants differently (see the judge that let off a immigrant that beat up a female police officer).

  17. limeflavoured on

Pretty high turnout for a by election too. Obviously Reform will be high on how this proves they’re the real opposition, or whatever, but they still only have 5 MPs and it’s still 3½ years at most before a general election. A lot can change.

  18. deyterkourjerbs on

This will trigger a surprising amount of defections to Reform from the remaining Tory MPs.

  19. Significant_Glove274 on

So ignoring the fact that enormous swathes of the country are pissed off with immigration is backfiring?

    An incredible suprise.

  20. CreepyTool on

I’m actually very relaxed about reform’s growing power.

They are clearly con artists, but:

    – they do highlight issues with British society where the pendulum has swung too far in one direction. Immigration and our cultural self-flagellation absolutely needs to be combatted.

    – the more power reform have, the more they will be exposed as lacking a real plan.

So hopefully we get to benefit from the more sensible bits of reform ideology whilst slowly watching the party itself implode.

Also, this sub can’t have it both ways. On one hand everyone here screams how awful life is at the moment and that the status quo doesn’t work. And then acts surprised when the wider population look to vote for something that breaks that status quo.

  21. Diligent_Craft_1165 on

The problem we have is that vast swathes of this country aren’t very smart. The bbc article suggests the main reason people turned away from Labour in Runcorn was the cut to Pip/WFA. Farage said he would cut benefits more, yet these people vote for him?

I assume the real reason they voted Reform was migration

  22. Queenspence2 on

Let’s ruin the country because the country is ruined vibes. Praying my local Green Party candidate wins but if not it’ll be Tory so at least it definitely won’t be reform

  23. TheRetardedGoat on

I’m convinced Starmer has to do one thing to be the most successful government in 20 years.

Solve this immigration crisis. It’s that simple.

  24. Immigration and lack of integration is now the biggest driver for many swing voters. Labour just does not get it. They need to stop listening to the Islington set and act fast. They are running out of time.

  25. Aggressive_Plates on

Reddit told me that mass migration into working class towns was an unalloyed benefit.

  26. WeakDoughnut8480 on

This comment section is a dhit show. So many reform voters knocking about here.

I think it’s clear to see this Labour cabinet just doesn’t have the capacity to get this country back in track. Why are they so scared of making tough decisions, there’s no election for almost 4 years.

I think it’s unbelievable people are turning to Farage, the architect of Brexit which is one of the issues stopping the economy from growing.

But honestly come the next election with what’s going on around the world I honestly think we are gonna be in such a different moment. I don’t think the arguments now will even be on the agenda.

Why are Labour so docile, why can’t they in Farage to Trump and the bad economy ( Brexit) which is the fucking truth
