big surprise the population of people who are using phones in school do not support banning phones in school
michaelquinlan on
It would be interesting to compare these numbers to the number of people who support allowing teachers and other school employees to have firearms at school.

Ages 13 to 24 is a rather large bucket.

In theory, but from what I know, once they start implementing it parents tend to start to push back because they can’t access their children 24/7 anymore.

Ban cell phones and it’s back to playing Drug Wars or Bomberman on your TI-86.

I prefer banning it in some classes (not at school as a whole). Like, there’s math class you have to focus on, put your phones on a shelf which is in class and take them back when on a break

Let kids do whatever they want. School sucks 🖕

The only argument I can think of is that camera phones have, quite frankly, caught a lot of teachers behaving badly. Teachers that probably would’ve gotten away with it, but for their actions being recorded.
I don’t know if there are cameras in every classroom nowadays. But they certainly weren’t when I was in high school in the 2000s.

Honestly the fact that only 42% of school kids outright oppose says a lot. And that 36% want them banned, that’s probably a lot of kids sick of the distractions/bullying/disturbances/etc. Tbh it was great when I went and they were banned, so many good times/friendships are formed when people aren’t starting at their phones in their prime brain development and social years.

Cool. How are they supposed to call 911 when the school gets shot up?

Odd that it’s banning cell phones and not cell phone use

My kids public school doesn’t allow cell phones. Every morning they are collected and kept at the front office. If a kid needs to contact their parents they can call them from there. At the end of the day the phones are returned. There are 800 students at this school.

Just wait until the mobile providers start funding parents who want to take the schools to court.
17% is more than enough if you’re all named “Karen” and your pockets are deep.

Let’s ban smart phones in school, and then give everyone a Razr. Parents can reach their kids if needed, kids can develop the stealth skills needed to text your friends without getting caught, everyone gets to experience the joy of someone’s ringtone unexpectedly going off in class.

Interesting note that the people who are not in school are in favor of the cellphone ban in school and the people who are in school do not favor the cellphone ban in school.
So is it better to trust the people who are in school, and can make an informed decision, or trust the people who are not in school to make an uninformed decision?

I’m more surprised with the 36% that agrees to in the 13-24 range it’s double what I would have guessed.

We have phones banned at work and it’s actually really nice.

I would not feel comfortable with my kid not having a cellphone. Not until they do something about gun control and school shootings.
There was an incident at my kid’s school where they spent half a day on locked down. The news spread and some parents couldn’t get a hold of their kids so they drove to the school. The staff wasn’t quick to communicate, which I understand since they were dealing with the situation and that takes priority. But still, I couldn’t imagine having my kid on lock down with no way of confirming that they’re ok.

With the prevalence of school shootings, I would rather kids have them…

It was bad enough when I was in school, I can’t imagine what it’s like now with today’s attention span and brainrot addiction.

Ban how? Do schools not still confiscate your phone if you have it out and give it back at the end of the day?
Troll_Enthusiast on
Just ban them before HS, then if they want a phone prior to HS they can only have a flip phone or one do those phones that have only messaging and call features, I forget the names of those.
