Hello all! We are going to be visiting in July and have narrowed a tour down to two options.

Option 1 (pic 1) – Oslo to Bergen. This would be our journey from Oslo to Bergen in a day. It’s a long day, but everything seems 100% worth it! We plan to be in Bergen as a base for three days. This means we would have our packs with us. How miserable will that be?

Option 2 (pic 2) – Bergen to Bergen day trip. We love the idea of a day trip and not having to tote around our packs the entire day.

Help! How miserable is NIAN with bags? Would you recommend it being our journey and having the day back in Bergen to explore or take the day trip and be bag free?

The second one looks better in my eyes. Idk where you’re from and what you’re used to but Oslo isn’t really that exciting in my opinion.

I think it’s too much transits in the first option. Some legs of the public transportations might be delayed. I did somethings similar but over two days last August, and had a 2 hours delay of the train departure in Oslo. As we planned to stay in Aurland on the first day it wasn’t a big deal, but in your case it’s a risk. And the next day the ferry we took from Flåm to Gudvangen also got delayed.
If possible, break the trip over two days and stay in Flåm or around that area.

So you plan on seeing Norway mostly from the bus and mostly streets?
