    > Reform say they’ll overhaul Cornwall Council as Tories are destroyed in election

It’ll be good of them to provide case studies of disastrous Reform policy and governance in action well in advance of a general election

  2. David_paint_stuff on

By overhaul, I presume they mean run already struggling services into the ground and award contracts to themselves and their mates.

  3. HotelPuzzleheaded654 on

Time for Reform to magically resolve the Councils’ they’ve taken control of financial woes.

  4. After-Dentist-2480 on

It’s clear from previous times the far-right are elected into local government, whether it’s BNP, NF, UKIP, Brexit Party or Reform, that most of their councillors are incompetent, idle or both. They’re riven by infighting, splits and failure to do casework.
Thanet council under UKIP from 2016-18 is a case in point.

Very few of the ReformUK councillors elected on Thursday will be re-elected.

  5. It’s sad to see the stupidity of the electorate, giving some power to Reform, at least it’s only local elections, maybe the electorate will remember their ineptitude at the next general election, I doubt it.

From the comment section of the article:

    >Reform will not be able to do any better than any political party until government gives councils more funding to fix the enormous amount that needs to be put right.

The excuses are already built-in. When Reform fails to deliver on its promises, it will be Labour’s fault.

Farage will be bemoaning *restrictive employment law* when he finds out that he can’t just unilaterally change the workers’ terms and conditions to stop them from working from home. It won’t be his fault that he made empty promises he couldn’t keep.

  7. I am very happy to see Reform finally in charge of something.

I truly believe they are a one trick pony party and they lack the basic expertise and know how to manage things.

Let’s see how bad they fare and let’s hope people will wake up to the fraud.

I know this is about Cornwall – this one really did surprise me for some reason, but I’ll be keeping my eye on Northamptonshire. Tories bankrupted it, so I’m wondering if it can get worse…

  9. They’ve already told the diversity and climate change people to go that work there….

Straight out of Donny Cheeto’s playbook.

  10. Separate-Passion-949 on

The average reform councillor is thick as pigshit and I wouldn’t trust them to do my shopping let alone run a constituency

  11. Objective-Figure7041 on

Why are we acting like labour and the Tories did a good job at running most of these councils?

  12. nolinearbanana on

Oh good. I really hope Cornwall gets completely screwed over. Not only do they thoroughly deserve it, it will be great for the rest of the country to see exactly what voting Reform gets you.

Doing DOGE at local council level will achieve even less than at the national level. It’s just a nonsense strategy, though quite fitting for Reform UK: the Tory rebrand party.

If they try and do tax cuts, job cuts, and service cuts, people are just going to have buyers remorse after like a year. There will be strikes, public campaigns, council tax rises, and eventually they will be voted out.

They’re not trying to do anything positive here, it’s all just cuts for the sake of vibes. In reality, the Tories already cut council funding to the bone, while upping costs by heaping statutory requirements for services onto those underfunded councils. Like 2/3 of a council’s budget is just spent on education and social care- if they cut the things that actually cost the most money, no-one will benefit.

Even the most ardent left wing councils are having to do some level of cuts against their will. Doing them on purpose, with glee, is only going to piss people off once they realise it achieves precisely fuck all. Though I guess they get to gloat about it for a while, so I doubt Reform actually care.

The more interesting thing here will be finding out just how mental some of these people actually are that only got elected for their turquoise rosette. Bound to be a few bangers in there and I’m sure we’ll see some insane headlines after a month or two.

  14. Funny how its a bunch of increasingly societally irrelevant old dudes who want to change stuff to suit them, innit?

I wonder if these people are just finding it hard in their late 50s/60s that they’re just not socially useful in the same way, and thats what fuels this hatred of younger people, immigrants ‘taking jobs’ and other stuff. Their place has eroded and they feel lost so rather than find a new place, they want to destroy everyones.

    Pathetic

i await the outcry in 5 years time as council services are on their ass and people are complaining.

  16. Conscious-Locksmith6 on

Be interesting when it finally sinks into them that funding for asylum housing comes from central government but homelessness housing comes from the council budget and it’s completely up to the provider to set the price so all those who are expecting them to end homelessness could be in for a shock that’s it’s not possible

  17. Jesus. Didn’t Cornwall learn anything from Brexit? Sorry, but this is on then. When it all goes to shit, it’s entirely their fault. I’m done being compassionate toward idiots who never learn from their mistakes, and keep getting conned by crooks. This fucking country, honestly.

  18. gr1msh33p3r on

Fartrage thinks he can Musk our public services. He’s all gob. I can’t wait to see him try. Every town and city in Deform controlled councils will resemble Birmingham. The loons will soon get fed up when their are piles of rubbish on their doorstep and rats the size of bulldogs.

  19. ProtectionFormer on

If you vote Reform, you are scum. There are no exceptions. Their core policies are built on racism and denial of climate change. So if you support that, you are scum.

  20. Thestolenone on

Maybe they will fuck up so badly by the time we have another general election people will be sick of them.

  21. wasnt_sure20 on

Yes he will stop the immigrants but at the expense of your Human Rights, your employment rights and basically decency which we still have since we still look after disabled people.

This party wants to remove all of that and more. Just image all the worst parts of the Tories and then max that by like 100.

  22. the_star_lord on

I’m fucking fed up of stupid, racist, fuckwits constantly getting to decide what’s ‘best’ by lying and causing mass damage.

yes things need sorting in many areas, but none of these people are right for the job. They are all selfish fuckwits.

    Fuck every party.

  23. SomebodyStoleTheCake on

I genuinely think at this point that some people on this earth are not self aware thinking beings but in fact no more intelligent or conscious than a sardine. How can people be stupid enough to genuinely think reform are in any way good

  24. Purple_monkfish on

Honestly this should be entertaining to watch. This bunch of self absorbed grifters have a trial run of how they might be as actual MPs and I fully hope and anticipate that their lack of empathy and self awareness will instead lead them to alienate their voter base rapidly by failing to do the basics and pissing everyone off.

  25. AngryPowerWank on

I look forward to seeing who the knuckle draggers who voted the turd Reich wannabe clowns into these councils blame when it falls to shit

  26. heppyheppykat on

I absolutely do not believe any reform MPs or councillors will do any work

  27. Can the media stop giving these guys free press, I know it gets the clocks but the bias is unreal, especially when they bring in the ad revenue
