Before the season began, baseball coach Joe Kinney expressed a desire to keep his team confident until Patriot League play started.

“Ideally, you keep your head above water as you head into league play,” he said.

Maybe it’s the winter cobwebs, but this was not the start he had in mind. Through their first six games, the Lafayette baseball team has gone winless. The streak is comprised of a loss against Georgetown, two losses against Davidson, and a three-game sweep at the hands of Campbell University.

None of the games have been close, either—all of their losses have been by at least five runs, and the first game at Campbell was a 17-6 drubbing.

The pitchers might be tossing a combined 9.37 ERA, but the offense isn’t helping any. The Leopard bats have only exceeded three runs twice this season, and both instances came when the opponents scored in the double digits.

The Leopards will try to get their first win of the season during a four-game series at Maryland Eastern shore this weekend.
