Ouch. A proposed $6 billion cut to NASA's budget could hit the Space Coast hard, potentially impacting thousands of jobs tied to the Artemis program. It feels a bit like déjà vu after the Shuttle era. 😬

  1. Very sad to see. Our greatest accomplishments are being torn apart before our eyes.

There’s still hope that Congress will defend Artemis and come up with a different budget in the end. These guys saved SLS from cancellation 3 times, let’s see what they can do now.

Don’t forget that the budget proposed by the White House doesn’t necessarily mean anything – Congress will present its own budget sometime in the fall, and that’s the budget that will be implemented.

And that $6 billion is going to develop Musk’s new launch facility just “approved” in Texas.

    Isnt having a King great?

  4. That’s less than 1 single SLS rocket mount/stand system.

Edit: $2.7B for SLS launch tower. So actually 2

  5. Is the budget cut for NASA as a whole, Artemis program in general, or just SLS? If it’s targeting SLS specifically then this is the first sane decision that this administration has made so far.

To be fair, SLS has to be canceled at this point. It’s very obviously a failure. I don’t think NASA funding should be cut in general, rather it should be repurposed. SLS just gave all parties involved a bad taste in their mouth.

The problem is that, although Congress has the power of the purse, they seem to have been complacent and disinterested in challenging any of Trump’s previous executive orders that had to do with budget and funding. So it really doesn’t matter if Congress has the power of the purse if they don’t bother to do anything when the president issues these illegal executive orders. I don’t know, maybe Congress will do something this time because they generally try to protect jobs in the states where NASA has a presence. Before it was simply discontinuing funding for basic services and human rights, which I don’t think they really care about.
