Submission statement: Nearly ten years ago, tech tycoons Sam Altman and Elon Musk launched OpenAI with a promise to develop AI tech to further the good of humanity.
But as the years passed and the market surrounding artificial intelligence grew, so too did the ambitions of OpenAI’s executives (Musk [flamed out from the venture](https://futurism.com/the-byte/elon-musk-quits-research-group) in 2019, and now runs his own AI company, called xAI.)
Now, the venture that began as a transparent tech nonprofit is quickly turning into a typical Silicon Valley startup — complete with whistleblowers speaking out against the company’s foray into the private market.
I get there is a lot to discuss with AI, but when it comes to AI does this sub post anything other than anti-AI content? This sub is starting to feel like r/collapse with the focus being AI.

AI is moving so fast that even developers on the cutting edge of the tech are behind.
AGI is coming fast. And frankly, there is all of nothing we can do about it.
Even if OpenAI puts on the brakes there are countless others working to find the next edge.
IMHO the only thing we can do is adapt. The age of AI employees is here. The labor displacement we are about to see will be epically unimaginable, and catastrophic if we don’t find a way to create a balanced system.
There will have to be a revolutionary way forward for this not to end with billions of angry unemployed in desperate poverty.
While seemingly apocalyptic, it also has the potential to be glorious.

I keep wondering how I will die. Maybe on the front line in Canada, Greenland or Eastern Europe. Maybe AI gone rogue. Maybe scavengers come to kill me and loot my stuff after society collapses. Maybe a blinding ball of nuclear light. Maybe a catastrophic climate event. Maybe ecosystem collapse.
So many exciting possibilities!

AGI is the nuclear weapons of our age. Everyone wants it because nobody wants it. It is inevitable. We need strong global leadership working together for a common goal. We are further from that than we have been for a long time.

So they cashed out and now want to “stop it” so their own startups would gain a foothold?
If you ask something to be blocked by court, you should be banned from doing anything commercial or working in that industry yourself.

[Darkly amusing summary](https://www.reddit.com/r/OpenAI/comments/1k76nde/openais_power_grab_is_trying_to_trick_its_board/) of what OpenAI’s trying to do right now (~4 minute read)
