At DEFEA 2025, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias announced Greece’s goal to enhance its domestic defense industry’s role in national procurement programs. Speaking at the Athens Defense Exhibition, Dendias outlined the Long-Term Defense Armament Plan (MPAE), spanning 20 years and prioritizing innovative programs tailored to modern warfare needs.

“Our aim is for the Greek defense industry to contribute to at least 25% of these programs,” Dendias stated.

He criticized past defense spending, noting that Greece spent over €270 billion (in today’s terms) on armaments by 2004, often misdirected. “With better choices, Greece could have been a leading exporter today,” he said.

To ensure accountability, Dendias introduced transparency measures to support the MPAE, emphasizing a strategic shift in defense investments.
