Wow! Thanks for the insight. What platforms did you use and which ones seemed to be the most fruitful?

Spreadsheet I used to document all the interviews I’ve done.
**Tools**
Python – To parse and run an analysis on the spreadsheet
ChatGPT – To vibe code and easily format my data to place into Sankeymatic
[Sankeymatic](https://sankeymatic.com/) – Create the diagram
**Addendum**
I should’ve chosen a better word over “Declined” because I did not decline an offer. I declined to continue an interview process because the pay rate was far below what I was targeting; so only one offer in the end.

I would have been too depressed tracking this and would have stopped.

Several questions:
– YOE?
– Field (what type of SWE)?
– Age range?
– Are you in the US?

This feels like my experience before I just gave up and took an IT job for half the pay

If you used to work at FAANG, how did 36 first round interviews yield only 2 offers?

I appreciate to about 5k roles in 6 months before I landed 2 offers. You got it!

Am I reading this wrong or did you do 98 interviews, 18 tests, and a full day onsite?

That’s a lot of rejections, but I guess the job market is pretty fierce for Star Wars Experts, as least for paid positions.

I don’t mean to be an asshole, but every time I see these I have no clue what it is that people are doing to have these kinds of outcomes. Admittedly I am a sales guy with a lot of experience at a strategic level- so not an engineer, but I cannot fathom putting in 600 applications to get to two offers. I have worked with lots of engineers and it seems bizarre to me that it is like this, but so often these graphs are made by people looking for positions in the industry. I don’t want to sound totally out of touch, but I just don’t get how it’s possible. Clearly the people who post these are competent individuals because they go through the effort of compiling the data and presenting it this way. Why is this happening?

Got my first job by knowing someone. Basically just trusted their existing employee that I was competent and knew my shit out of college.
Got my second job after putting in one application and doing two interviews.
