Meta will create AI friends for you. As it will own them, as befits the world's second largest advertising company, their primary purpose will really be to sell you stuff.
Even in an episode of 'Black Mirror', this vision of the future would rank as one of the bleaker dystopian hellscapes. It says something about how out of touch Big Tech has become with the lives of ordinary people, it never even occurred to Mark Zuckerberg how depressing and appalling this sounds to most people.

I was *hooked* on the platform 10 years ago. Most of my friends were in Facebook communities, I valued all my real life friend connections that were sustained there. I walked away 3 months ago, perma deleted my account. It was incredibly easy to do because the platform has become an insufferable tsunami of toxic politics and AI.
Just delete your account. If it’s free, *you are the product* – walk away.

You make AI that can do boring jobs; then, to lead by example, instead of downsizing you’re work force you reduce people’s hours while keeping their pay the same. Also, you can Lobby congress to pass regulations and rules that make this the norm.
Then we take all the time we’re not spending at work and use it to make and build relationships with more real people?

Of all the things AI could do to benefit humanity and yet Zuck wants to make our social lives into multi level AI marketing all because he doesnt have any real life freinds.
Don’t you want to wear facebook glasses that:
1) track your eye movement so they can tell what or who you like even if you don’t say it out loud?
2) record and transcribe everything you say?
3) know who you lie to, and about what? Even your little white lies about being late.
4) develop secret profiles about your personality and behavior that go much deeper than anything they’ve been able to do so far?

The worst thing isn’t how out of touch with humanity the tech giants are.
Because, at the end of the day, they came to this conclusion through a lot of research. They KNOW that humanity has lost touch with humanity, and that work/school-life balance is fucking driving people into social isolation.
…and they see it as a business opportunity. If anything they are more in touch because they have the numbers to back an entire business model to it.

I don’t understand why anyone wants any of the changes being made on Facebook. All I want from it is a way to stay in touch with my actual friends but I rarely go on it anymore because it’s just groups I don’t belong to and don’t want to join and ads
These tech companies really are the bane of our society. Tech inherently, was supposed to help us, all of us make our lives better, but instead, it’s just taking over our lives.
