The cybersecurity company that became a household name after causing a massive global IT outage last year has announced it will cut 5% of its workforce in part due to “AI efficiency”.
In a note to staff earlier this week, released in stock market filings in the US, CrowdStrike’s chief executive, George Kurtz, announced that 500 positions, or 5% of its workforce, would be cut globally, citing AI efficiencies created in the business.
“We’re operating in a market and technology inflection point, with AI reshaping every industry, accelerating threats, and evolving customer needs,” he said.
Kurtz said AI “flattens our hiring curve, and helps us innovate from idea to product faster”, adding it “drives efficiencies across both the front and back office”.
“AI is a force multiplier throughout the business,” he said.
Lol they offered me an interview in downtown Austin 2022-23 peak rent era for a $60k sales job (before the blackout crash).
Idk where I could have possibly even met the lease requirements with that.
I mean, it was a human error that couldn’t be rectified quickly cos it required humans on a weekend… it seems the hoomans are the issue…
The company fell for the AI hype. They are delusional if they think AI can fully replace humans in every way necessary. Most likely they are under pressure from the board of directors to make changes that make the bottom line look better. They are using AI as an excuse in hope that the layoffs are seen as progressive rather than reactionary.
The company that crashed millions of systems last year is now blaming ‘AI efficiency’ to cut jobs. Feels less like innovation, more like deflection. Fix your mess first, then talk efficiency.
the CEO doesnt care, they just cut job to make excel sheet looks pretty for bonus then when the company goes to shit, they get hired for even more at next company
Can’t tell if CEO genuine or bullshiting because they need an excuse to fire people and juice the numbers by the end of Q2.
Don’t worry, the AI will find all the bugs in the kernel drivers the humans missed so the outage will never happen again /s
It’s not that AI can do those jobs, it’s that they fire your teammates and force you to provide the same output, and they tell you “if you need help just use AI”
And for some time the people left are barely making it working unpaid overtime because they fear they also may be dropped into the worst IT job market since 2009.
And the ceos say “see? AI is working!”
good thing that microsoft is blocking this from running at ring 0 then, because with this, it’d be bound to happen again and again
