    > A Reform UK councillor elected to Durham County Council just nine days ago has resigned his seat after failing to declare he worked for the council, the party has said

    Another one bites the dust

It’s referenced in the article but worth stating here: all of these resignations are going to cost us, because we have to pay for a by-election for each one.

    >It follows claims this week that “several” Reform members’ futures were in doubt due to their current employment in the council. Employees are disqualified from standing as councillors at the same time under national legislation.

So there’ll be more to come, potentially even from the same area. To clarify, they could have taken up their position as councillors if they instead chose to resign their employment with the council after being elected. But of course they won’t do that – even though they ran knowing the rules. What an utter waste of time and money.

  4. It changes nothing really. Labour imploded in County Durham and the Tories managed to do even worse while Lib Dems lost a little and the Greens gained another councilor.

The county has voted overwhelmingly for Reform and considering how many poor rural towns and villages were being used as migrant dumping grounds by cities like London and Brimingham it’s no suprise. Heathcare and social services are both underfunded and understaffed while the people feel like they’ve been abandoned at best or flat out turned on by Labour and remember this historically was a safe seat for the party.

I don’t like where things are going but it feels like the mainstream parties are completely disconnected from what it is their voters want.

A fact Farage and dickheads like him keep exploiting.

Edit: Yes, yes downvoting me for being honest.

I love how reform is all doing the same exact thing Nigel likes doing.

He will do it too once he wins.

  6. Would it be a good idea to implement ranked choice voting and let second place step up if first place resigned shortly after taking charge?

    And *another*…

Why would anyone stand for office if they had no interest in subsequently going on to serve in their elected role?

    So what is the conclusion?

None of this was genuine? It’s all a load of performative bollocks by individuals without an iota of interest in public service to their names?

It’s abundantly clear that *Reform* are a load of self-interested bullshit merchants who absolutely do *no*t have the interests of their constituents at heart.

  8. One has to laugh.

What an absolute plonker! How do the checks not flag this? Do Reform not at least interview or talk to candidates? There’s a whole process of joining the party, going to meetings, engaging, campaigning, building support, kissing arses etc etc all before you throw your hat in the ring. You’d have thought at some point that this muppet or people at reform or even the council would have said “er Andrew? You work for the council though, I’m sure you thought about this and resigned weeks ago?”

Same for Reform, they must at least take employment history from candidates ?

The Lib Dems Reform Watch unit will be disbanded before Christmas at this rate.

  10. How odd.

Thought this was an update on that RAF chap. I was surprised to see another one, and after a quick search, theres several more Reform candidates with employment issues. I have to wonder what happened.

Ironic that the party with the UK D.O.G.E mandate is wasting the local authorities money immediately after being elected to re-elect themselves.

And it would be bloody hilarious if a small amount of the massive don’t know/apathetic lot voted an swung the vote elsewhere.

  11. Really the council should take disciplinary action against them – they knew they weren’t allowed to run and now they’ve cost their employer money in reholding another by-election. Could be gross misconduct

So is this 3 or 4 now? Farage has cost this country £75K of taxpayers money just this month. I mean that’s what – a nurse and a teacher right there or your road being resurfaced. Nigel has deprived you of that. How do you feel about that? Oh you’re going to vote for him to own the woke and because you don’t like all the immigration and the EU?
