      Labour should tackle poverty because they are the government and it is their duty to tackle poverty.

      If the average person felt like they were getting some sort of benefit from the state, whether that’s improved wages, fairer utility bills, accessible healthcare, better employment rights or a fairer housing market, all of this Reform UK, “the boats are the root cause of everything” rhetoric would disappear.

      Unfortunately none of these things are a quick and easy win, but I do think that labour need to really invest in improving at least one of these things and make a LOT of noise while doing it.

      Sure it’s great that labour are trying to make immigration and asylum laws more sensible. But really and truly, I don’t think it’ll have as big an effect on the average person’s quality of life as the newspapers and this sub suggest that it will.

      We won’t tackle it because the country needs it but we will tackle it so reform don’t get voted… That’s what I read.

      Given Reforms policies are low tax/low spending, cut welfare/cut public services – isn’t it safe to assume that Poverty REALLY isn’t an issue with Reform voters?

      (Unless they mean increasing it)

      Best that Labour can offer is chasing after Reform on the ‘immigrants are replacing us’ voting bloc, which apparently are just dying to vote for Labour if they twist the racism dial far enough.

      Its all well and good Reform forcing these changes but we must not forget what that party have said they would do if they got a majorly. Here two of their policies, to cut all benefits completely and to privatise the NHS. So even if you agree with them this is just too far.

      We’re getting to the point where the fucking reform is being seen as a party that will sort out all our problems. They literally have nothing to offer other than hate.

      I think rejoining EU would fix the cost of living crisis and improve trade but thats not on the table sadly

      Reform doesn’t even want to tackle poverty, their policies explain this.

      Reform doesn’t care about anyone who isn’t Nigel.

      What do reform represent to voters?- renewed prosperity.

      What does focussing on tackling poverty represent to voters?- increased taxes and welfare state (less prosperity)

      Labour need to stop abuse of the asylum system and law, appear to limit welfare state. But most importantly they need to offer low income adult workers funds to upskill in the workplace and (creating social mobility) while limiting immigration for medium skilled jobs.

      It’s really not that bloody hard to work out.

      Because that’s what Brexit did with lies. That’s what Reform are tying to do with lies.

      You can’t win by maintaining the status quo and just pointing out the lies of your opposition, because plenty of them will slip though.

      Nope the only thing they need to tackle is immigration. If they fix that then all the other problems become a whole bunch easier to fix and reform support will melt away

      Aping Reform isn’t going to work 
      Most people aren’t obsessed with hating brown people 

      Most people are far more worried about unaffordable Bills and obscenely low wages 

      People voted for an end to austerity. Starmers offering them yet more austerity, and his attacks on disabled people /poorest pensioners have alienated much of Labours core vote 

      But let’s be honest. It’s not Starmer. He’s just unelected fascist clown McSweeneys puppet. 

      I’ll be voting Green or for actual left wing parties in future

      Yeah, the problem is they are doing the opposite.

      The changes to PIP which they are trying to push through will only push hundreds of thousands of people more into poverty and cherry on top is that they will be disabled..

      Except Labout are INCREASING poverty with their cuts to winter fuel allowance, attacking the disabled, the vulnerable with benefit cuts and hiking up fuel bills for families as part of the Net Zero lunacy for their business chums.

      Whilst I think they should, I honestly don’t think it will have that big an impact. The Tories made poverty worse, and it never harmed them.
