I posted this on Saturday but it was removed since personal posts must be on Monday. So I resposted it today. I also took the opportunity to modify it and listen to some feedback given to me

I used Excel for the graphs, and PowerPoint to stitch it all together. Discord extracted the data for me and sent it, and I used python scripts to get useful info out of it.

he used the word “love” more than her. is this what unrequited love looks like? 💔

  3. I’ve been wanting to do this with my current girlfriend. I did it with some exes in the past, but the app we use (Zalo, she’s Vietnamese) doesn’t allow you to export the data. It’s stored in an encrypted database.

Woah this is so cool! Why are there so many moon emojis tho lol, do you say “goodnight” with it every day or something?

What happened in the second period of no school?

After the first one there was a huge difference between his msg and her. Then as hers started faltering he picked back up. Funny

Fuck me I been dating married/10 years and haven’t spoken that many words to her.

There’s no stats on any of the three articles (a, an, the), I’m disappointed you didn’t go for the funny

  8. Are you long distance? My girlfriend and I probably approach this when she’s traveling but otherwise, we just talk in person.

  9. What did you use to pull data? Been trying to do the same. (Obviously if anything other than just the search feature).

  10. Does your girlfriend text you more, or is she

    one of those

    people who sent messages

    like this

    instead of full sentences

    in 1 go

Weekday and hourly could be combined into a heat map. Basically a matrix of days on one axis and time along the other, which highlights darker cells where there are more text frequency. Not sure how easy it’d be on excel, but I see them often in Tableau.

  12. Did the GF see this analysis? Wasn’t she angry that you posted it publicly?

Surprised this hasn’t been pointed out yet but I’m stuck on an average of 4.5 words per message. I’m guessing (and based on the emoji counts) that many of the messages were just sending hearts and moons back and forth and maybe a lot of “lol” responses but seems like there would be very few meaningful conversations where it would average out to so few words.

Also I’m curious what “confession” represents.

  14. I find it strange you talk more online on days where you can be together all day, eg weekends and no school.

  15. Ooh nice!

I’ve been wanting to extract messages from discord for archival purposes for a while now… Any chance you could point a brotha in the right direction for that?

Just so not everyone is calling you two weird, my partner and I had similar texting habits when we were in college together. We weren’t even dating at the time, but we were in a perpetual, elaborate conversation that went on through texts and IMs. This was back when phone bills still listed out messages one by one, and they would be ten to fifteen pages thick each month.

  18. This number seems fucking insane… I get like 15 from my wife per month, lol. Not sure this dude has ever spoken to his GF.

  19. Sorry to break it to you, but you are not in a real relationship I’m afraid.

If you were, the most common sentence would be… What are we having for dinner tonight? 😅😅😅
