If creating an off-shore company registered in Gibraltar to hold your company shares wasn’t an attempt to avoid tax, what was the purpose? You don’t do that shit in error.

Filling your self-assessment late is an error. This wasn’t an error.

[edit] Forgot to say, he also tried to threaten and sue using a SLAPP strategy against the journalists looking into it.

    2. “Error” my arse, he knew exactly what he was doing – he was even the fucking Chancellor of the Exchequer, who sets the bloody rules.

Compare the recent coverage of this vs Angela Rayner’s few thousand pounds as well – this is over a thousand times **more money.**

    3. So would careless be an accident?

You’d think these top accountants would be on their game.

And the most astounding thing is that he said it with a straight face. That’s not easy.

Everybody makes mistakes when dealing with peanuts.

Most people would be in jail… “Oh my apologies you’re rich, yes, if you could pay a bit of it so the public are happy we’ll drop the matter sir”

    6. He lied again that HMRC said what he did was accidental or non-deliberate. HMRC cannot and would not give an exonerating, ex culpable judgement on the actions of someone trying to stiff the UK exchequer of £5m. He is a tax dodging lying sack of shit. Also he should have been asked about the SLAPP lawsuit he initiated trying ti suppress the truthful, public interest journalism of Dan Neidle and others. He is a Slapper.

    7. If this was 20 / 30 / 40 years ago it would be a major enough scandal to cause a party downfall.

With it being the Tories this probably doesn’t even hit the top 10.

The fact he was Chancellor is such an unfunny joke.

‘Do as I say, not as I do’.

    8. Good thing it was a couple grand otherwise he might have been in wall to wall newspaper coverage

    9. Whoopsie sorry I forgot to transfer you the 5 mil!

Tax code really needs to be simplified. If the ex-chancellor of the exchequer can’t figure it out, how is anyone else supposed to?

This is pocket change compared to Alan Sugar who was caught out on £100m+ due to bad advice.
