I wonder if the Starmer Reeves rift stories will come back around now.

  2. No. Wait. Things are supposed to be bad. You know. Because of the transes. Or the immigrants. Or something I’m supposed to be annoyed at, I lose track.

Big if true, but i at least need a graph, maybe even a powerpoint would suffice

When your economy is in the gutter, it is easy to be the fastest growing but the real question is can we catch up and sustain it?

  5. Comfortable-Plane-42 on

Well as long as you all feel much richer and with better job prospects, and aren’t being misled into believing that a 0.7% rise in GDP actually means something for the average citizen, that’s what matters

  6. If Starmer were walking on water like Jesus, people were still saying that he does it because he can’t swim.

If you shit the bed the hardest then of course any percentage improvement would be better.

The first 2 quarters of 2024 under the Tories were equally impressive.

I hope this can be sustainable but I don’t remember people creaming themselves over it this time last year.

  9. Step 1: Tank your economy by isolating yourself from the massive trading block on your doorstep.

Step 2: Claim victory when your economy is growing even though it never recovered from Step 1.

ECONOMISTS HATE THIS ONE SIMPLE TRICK!

  10. lol hold on we got one good quarter. Let’s establish a fucking trend before we celebrate.

It’s not sun shine and rises though. The US economy was the envy of the world 18 months ago and that didn’t stop the re-election of Donald Trump.

GDP figures are a waste of time if the people in this country from some of the poorest and deprived communities do not feel like they’re are seeing the benefits of it and soon.

With all due respect, can we not compare ourselves to how much better we are doing compared to others, and compare ourselves to how much more we can improve on compared to other countries. For example, healthcare, homeless etc.

Usain Bolt doesn’t look back when he goes past the other runners, he races forward to the finishing line.

    What are these articles even?
Every day there’s a new story about how the british economy is staring into oblivion, next day it’s the best in the g7.

Don’t worry. This can be spun as something bad…throw in something about Brexit being a disaster as well.

  18. GDP going up is nice for the wealthy. But for the average person no benefit will be felt.

GDP growth is thanks to immigration anyway. Capitalist economies must see big number go up no matter the cost. Even if that cost is the very fabric of the society they are supposed to serve.

Why thank you for that IN DEPTH reporting Indy.

It takes time to see change. I wish everyone was just pulling in the same direction (my direction)

  21. Same_Ebb_7129 on

Does it have anything to do with our prime Minister helping to guide your national bank through brexit? I hope that’s part of it.

  22. PsychoSwede557 on

Remember when the UK was on the brink of economic oblivion because of Brexit? That was a silly time. Glad we’re passed all that bs.

  23. AlmightyScoosh on

The problem here is “the economy” for 99% of people has little reflection on how they experience life. The economy is doing well or growing, has that translated to higher wages? Lower prices? Better living conditions?

Maybe anecdotally a few people will say yes, but for most people they feel no better off than they did 12 months ago, and that’s what the media will pounce on.

  24. Regular_mills on

This can’t be right. Brexit crippled the economy. We’ve been fucked since we voted leave.

  25. TheCulturalBomb on

I can’t keep up with how the economy is up, down, side to side. It’s like they don’t actually have a clue.

  26. Ill_Apricot_7668 on

Have a small economy, which experiences a small increase, which in turn is a relatively large proportion.

0.7% increase over three months will really ofset the 10% inflation over 18 months, we’re in such good shape now, all or our issues are resolved.

  27. Illustrious-Engine23 on

I don’t know about anyone else but I’ve found the job market has been picking up lately.

  28. If Starmer can manage strong economic growth and reduce immigration then i’ll vote Labour next time around. Can’t believe i’m saying that but after the horror show of the conservatives i’ll consider anything.

  29. LongAndShortOfIt888 on

The liberal economy has shown time and time again that it produces steady and healthy growth. Conservative economics have never, **ever,** had lasting success, because they rely on butchering the state’s assets to sell off extremely cheap to private owners.

  30. Hollywood-is-DOA on

Fastest growing economy and reality are a very different thing. It’s not like the first example helps the majority of the people who live in the UK.

  31. DaRealCamille on

All hail the almighty economy! May her blessings be with you all on this day!

  32. And next week we will get “Why the UK is doomed and going to go back to the stone age” the week after “British economy on the rebound” and after that “it’s over” and after that “solid growth outpaces other countries”
