Working on something for my dashboard and found an outlier canton, Appenzell Innerrhoden. More than half the cars there are hybrids.
My guess it's because it's the de-facto registration for rental companies.
Hybrids (in particular Petrol) overtook Petrol cars last year and it's the only canton in all of switzerland that has more alternative fuel types than Petrol + Diesel.
Every other canton has > 50% Petrol cars still.

I found this particularly interesting because in Switzerland we have this thing with Appenzell, it has a reputation of being a bit backwards.
But in the move away from petrol cars, it leads, by a huuuuge margin.
The canton itself only has 16,000 inhabitants. So more than 1000 new registrations each month seems way too much for that small canton. Sounds very plausible that it’s related to rental cars.
the share of BEVs seems to be really low compared to the Swiss average (~19%), why’s that?
Including mild hybrid (MHEV)?
Mild hybrids run 100% on petrol, so I would exclude that from the statistic.
Animating this chart adds nothing to it, and prevents you from zooming in. Also the lines aren’t moving at the same speeds…
This is maddening. The animation is useless and too fast to see, and we don’t need month to month numbers – just smooth the curve and delete animation
Question: “The Rise in Hybrids”? You mean this is about new car sales per month? Or manufacturing? Reading through the comments, I see the word registration a lot, so people registering new ownership?
It’s an great chart that clearly shows that petrol cars are being replaced by hybrids. I seem to miss the last few months though, the animation resets so quickly. Maybe get rid of the animation?
