If I’d dressed as Hitler at some point in my life, there would be no chance I’d ever run for public office, how stupid is this bloke?

  2. MediocreDisplay7233 on

Is this not a bit over sensitive? If he’s in fancy dress and doing it for a joke what is really wrong with it? I knew a guy who went to a fancy dress party in fake tan, slicked back hair and a suit with one sleeve rolled up and his arm covered in fake blood.

    He was Michael Barrymore.

This must be a generational thing because back in the 80s and 90s Nazis had become comic figures, you had series like Allo Allo on the tv. People dressed as Nazis for fancy dress parties regularly, it was one of the standard fancy dress store costumes.

It didn’t mean you admired them any more than you admired Napoleon or Freddie Krueger.

This doesn’t bother me at all to be honest. You could argue whether you find it funny or tasteful, but it’s not as if he’s an actual Nazi

  5. >”The photo had originally surfaced while Labour, then led by Jeremy Corbyn, was dogged in an anti-Semitism row.”

    from the [report](https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/sites/default/files/investigation-into-antisemitism-in-the-labour-party.pdf):

    >”Our investigation has identified serious failings in leadership and an inadequate

    >process for handling antisemitism complaints across the Labour Party, and we

    >have identified multiple failures in the systems it uses to resolve them. We have

    >concluded that there were unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination for

    >which the Labour Party is responsible.”

good to see that they learned from this and took actions to avoid further tensions with the community…

It was 16 years ago and for a bit of shits & giggles at a charity party……

  7. Unless he actually did or said something, people just need to get a grip. We have much bigger problems that need attention and outrage.

  8. Classic_Peasant on

Ah yes, the left supporters defending this.

Whereas, is this was a Tory or Reform mayor, you’d be calling him a racist, racist and out for his blood and resignation.

No one should really do it.

  9. He did a dumb thing, but it was back when stuff like Allo allo was on telly. Bad taste, yes. Offensive, yes. Funny at the time? Probably.

    No one cares.

Dressing up as hitler for fancy dress = bad

Glorifying Nazi ideology in the reform party = good

    The British press are scum

I’m from the area and in the local Facebook groups he is a controversial figure to say the least haha A lot of people hate him and find him extremely arrogant.

This was normal in 80’s and 90’s Correct me if im wrong, Hitler was the most evil thing on the planet and on Halloween people dress as evil things like Freddy Kruger, witches who roast children in ovens and vampires that drink your blood… so he dressed as an Evil thing… I can see why people used to do this and most people didn’t bat an eye lid, I’d think something was suss if he did it recently as education on the issues surrounding real life figures representing the attrocities that happened at the time.it was not done to offend or support, it was fancy dress of something Evil. He did this in the past when it was normal and accepted. If he does it in current times by all means cancel him.

Pirate- murdered, raped and plundered – fine

Crusader – murdered, raped and pillaged – fine

Nazi – OMG – unacceptable behavior

  15. Sensitive_Echo5058 on

Genuinely curious, is everyone who’s saying this is comical, and he meant no harm, equally happy to share such sentiments if a political figure for Reform is found to do the same?

  16. A_Ticklish_Midget on

What the fuck are these comments?

It’s not hard, just don’t dress up as literal fascists and you’ll be fine.

  17. ClacksInTheSky on

If he was at a nazi event then this is terrible.

If it was fancy dress then it’s terrible taste

  18. Substantial-Newt7809 on

Far as I know people have dressed like Nazi’s to parody and piss take for decades now. This fearful reverance only empowers them. People talking about dressing like a short Austrian with a stupid mustache like it’s blackface or something.

  19. Majestic-Computer443 on

I’m always amazed just how many people are having difficulties going through life not casually dressing up as Hitler. Or putting on blackface.

At least for me, doing neither of those has been effortless, I don’t even have to think about it.

  20. Jealous-Honeydew-142 on

Hey Henry the Eight is famous again!

He is a nob by all accounts going off the local Face ache pages.

  21. Wow i don’t think I’ve ever quickly reached the opinion that someone is a total moron and an utter cunt as well so quickly. The power of the two images and the context is quite an assault.
These pictures taken together, and obviously the context is key that he stood for office, is this where that “led by donkeys” quote comes from?

  22. Slow news day at the sun. Or else it’s trying to dig up some pre-historic shit to try and upset the applecart because the new mayor is team Labour.

The sun don’t tolerate nazi costumes from the 1990s …
No, they’d rather have their nazis wearing aqua colour rosettes and hanging around with known rapists and thugs.

  23. Squishtakovich on

At one time people used to dress up as Hitler to make fun of him. I’m sure the far right must love that nobody is allowed to do that anymore.

  24. Yea mocking the Nazis. As we should be continuing to do today lol they’re Nazis they don’t have feelings

  25. LazyScribePhil on

Sounds like a dick. But a dick who’s just been democratically elected. If people are looking to cancel someone in the face of democracy then fair enough but it might create a queue

  26. Dressing up as Hitler = fine

Having standard centre-right/right policies like wanting to reduce immigration to what it was a few decades ago or doing a gesture to indicate your heart going out to the crowd = LITERALLY fascism

    Oh reddit.
