  1. Well I mean, that hopefully means that the far right can’t latch onto false pretences, so 🤷

I don’t know, maybe it was done to avoid riots like a couple months ago because some people in this country (and from abroad) have a habit on inciting riots? In fact, some tweets are still up claiming the attacker was a Muslim or Asylum Seeker etc etc..

Might be useful to use your brain every now and then

  3. They probably had to before the usual lot started setting hotels with asylum seekers in on fire.

Well yeah, the last time they tried to be patient, racist troglodytes tried to burn down a hotel and start race riots…

  5. Probably for the best.  The information vacuum following the Southport stabbings allowed misinformation to spread and clearly contributed to angry people on the streets.

Good to see the government getting ahead of the nutters and bad faith actors.

People moaned and started riots when the ethnicity wasn’t released immediately for something last year. They got what they wanted (immediate release of an attacker’s demographic info), and now they’re unhappy because it’s not a scary brown man.

I think they were in an unusually volatile situation because there was already a large crowd there (for the event)

They were having enough trouble getting people away from the car (which we now know had 4 people trapped underneath, one of them a child according to last nights statement from the fire services) so it could be lifted safely. Last thing they needed was the crowd kicking off elsewhere

  9. There was (and still is)a picture of an innocent man getting shared as the ‘driver’, the police probably didn’t want him getting murdered because of those lies.

  10. It’s quite sad that we’re at this stage where stuff like this is needed.

It’s an never ending battle because anything short of perfection will result in a barrage of angry people.

The reason the Southport attacker’s identity was held back was because he was 17 at the time. The police were extra speedy yesterday because since the riots they don’t want the far right caliming it was an asylum seeker (which some already did in like the hour before he was revealed). Last time that happened there were riots and yesterday there were hundreds of thousands of angry people on the streets of Liverpool. Now instead of caring about the attack (because he is white), the far right still look to be victims and go on about how the attacker was revealed too early, despite the fact that last time they were rioting over the fact he wasn’t revealed early enough!

  12. They need to do this with every suspect. That’s the only way to defeat hysteria.

  13. Well duh. Last time they didn’t and the press whipped folk into a frenzy that resulted in racists setting fire to a hotel where innocent men, women and children were living, and having pogroms attacking non white people.

  14. Yeah I wonder why that’s become necessary…

Christ people are idiots reacting without information.

I’m fine with this if they know who it is straight away.

Just to shut down any misinformation before it gets a chance to spread.

    Same with publishing crime statistics.

It did also help that they had the guy in custody pretty much instantaneously.

  16. We know why they released it quickly. It’s not rocket science, when there’s a certain crowd chomping at the bit to racially motivate every tragic event. Let’s not forget the Wimbledon school crash.

Well after seeing comments on the various threads certain people were already spreading vile shit at unprecedented speed based on their assumptions so they likely wanted to get ahead of that

Has anyone got any more ideas, is this just some pissed off lunatic that couldn’t get his car out or some moron thats let’s football emotions get the better of them and annoyed Liverpool’s won

  19. It’s to stop far right numpties tearing the place apart because they read a random Facebook post blaming a Muslim immigrant and were too angry and stupid to check the source.

  20. Dammed if they do damned if they don’t. A whole lot of “bUt ThEy wOuLd hIdE iT iF hE wAs…” from the usual pondlife yesterday. Victim mentality whataboutism is still better than the more obvious bigoted commentary you usually get.
