Paramedics and nurses responding to emergencies in Pjazza San Ġorġ, Gozo, are being ordered to leave their ambulances outside Piazza San Ġorġ and proceed to patients on foot, The Shift has learned.
The informal directive, reportedly issued to avoid disrupting local businesses, applies even in critical cases. A recent incident saw an ambulance crew barred from entering the square as they attempted to assist a man suffering a stroke.
Emergency workers said the policy is designed to shield business owners who have taken over the square with unauthorised tables, chairs, and enclosures, effectively blocking vehicular access to the area.
Among those benefiting are reportedly well-connected café operators, including the family of Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela.
The minister’s parents own a premises now trading as Manouche, leased to a business family with other interests in the same area, known among Gozitans as ‘Ta’ Nisju’.
Typical behaviour from these so called Ministers (i.e. crooks, thieves and criminals). Economy before anything else, even when people’s lives are at stake. Ironic coming from the Health Minister 😂

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with outdoor seating per se, but we really need some sort of regulation that allows some form of vehicular access in cases of emergencies. Too many times have ambulances struggled to get through because of tables blocking the road. Are restauranteurs really that desperate for an extra penny?
But malta isn’t corrupt……
Anyone else feel like never gracing the tables of those businesses?
For those reasons, I do not sit and spend money at those tables.
I prefer eating in other towns
