If you to compare between the two countries, racism towards ukrainians in Russia is a pretty similar to racism towards black people in USA. It sounds like a stupid overexaggeration at first but then you hear this random remark about “them being subhumans” and it throws you off about how casual people can be about stuff like this. They don’t see anything wrong with it, to them it’s perfectly normal to treat others with no respect.

Honestly goes to show you again that people who are looked at as very smart because of their career are often not smart at all outside of their expertise.
“I was still pro Russia in 2012” and describes surprise at how imperialistic and dictatorial their culture is. Was he living in a box?
Also describing their victory day parade as cultish and comparing it to Americas is laughable. WW2 was literally existential for The Soviet Union. They lost up to 27 million people in WW2, 8-11 million of which were military deaths. It’s basically unfathomable in the comparison to any other conflict in history. All with a population of less than 200 million at the time of the conflict.
If America lost 40 million of their 340 million population in a war you can bet your ass off our parades would seem 10x more cultish than Russian parades today seem.
