Surely not, that must be skewed by people being caught multiple times?

Hate to say it but people need to learn to put their phones down when in public and start displaying some awareness of their surroundings. The thefts are of course wrong but device addiction is so bad that people just don’t help themselves.

Over a whole lifetime? I’m surprised the number isn’t higher. I first had my phone stolen at 16 and have since been attempted to be robbed a further 5 times.
Who are these 2 in 3 people that have never been robbed?

Previously worked in mobile phone insurance. The common things are basically not paying attention, being on your phone in crowds. And also those people who walk with phones in their hand on speaker phone easily get them snatched out of their hands.
There’s also a new spate of thieves watching people until they enter their passcode before swiping the unlocked phone and being able to access it after seeing the passcode.
Also leaving your phone out on the table in pubs/restaurants.
If you have the function, make sure any apps that are financial or shopping, require touch/Face ID etc to even open them, let alone login. Also ensure you can remotely wipe your phone.

interestingly also, 1 in 3 in UK admit they are not aware of their surroundings

1 in 3 is extremely high and I call bullshit on that stat.
For London *maybe* and specific parts, but for the rest of the country? Absolutely no way, I don’t even know anyone who’s had their phone snatched, including my friends in London, nevermind up here in Yorkshire.

I was walking along holding my chocolate bar, reading the text on the back and it was snatched right out my hand. Couldn’t believe it!

People shouldn’t have to do it, but consider buying a phone strap, like you would wear if holding a camera. They’re £5 for 3 on amazon, I like the ones by Empire.

Well I fall into that, but it was in secondary school in 2004. Now what?

I bought a £70 Honor with just the basics installed, no banking and stuff I’d care if someone gained access, or I lost it. I used it for nights out in the city and outdooring stuff.

Obviously most people here know nothing about London lol. They do not realise how serious the problem is

This doesn’t add up at all, can’t name a single person I know who has had their phone stolen.

Most of these stolen phones end up in Shenzhen, China. The UK government should be applying pressure on China and dealing with the smugglers who are taking the phones to China.

I don’t know anyone who’s had that problem. Although I sent a phone in to be repaired and the postman stole it but he was stealing all sorts of parcels so that’s different.

Absolute nonsense. Even in London the chances are slim. Show me the stats. Otherwise this is a media paid attempt at digital control. Show me the actual stats

Seems about right tbh. Think about that proportion of friends and family will have had that happen, some were just phone ripped out of their hands by thugs on a moped (talking Manchester/salford area) but also things like pickpockets in crowds or at music events or even having their bag or jacket snatched or swiped and their phone happened to be in there. Common factor with it is it’s mostly women I know that it’s happened to, so imagine they were seen as an easier target or something.

Walking through an empty London streetat night, a guy zoomed past me on a bike, circled around in the distance for a minute and then came back towards me and dropped it on the ground before he went off without a word. i thought I was lucky, but a nate told me it was because it wasnt an iPhone.

A friend had hers stolen on the bank holiday Monday but the police caught the bastard breaking into cars in Waterlooville. Her phone was in a bag he stole out of a car.
Another friend was visiting from Finland in 2018 and had her phone pickpocketed in a Waterstones in London. She hasn’t come back since sadly.
Beyond these two examples I only hear of a phone theft every couple of months at work. I have to contact EE to cancel the SIMs for the business.
