We had a teacher do this by accident. She fooled around with a pupil in a toilette cubical at a bar on a night out. Had no idea he was a student in the school and then he blackmailed her for a bit about it.

This is a weird one, and reads very badly (not the BBC’s fault, they have to be careful what they report) –
The guy is 33 now but this happened sometime between 2016 and 2019, so when he was somewhere between 23 and 27. He says “in my early 20s” in a statement, so we can assume it was near the start of his time at the school.
It says he is “adamant” the pupil was over 18 and an ex-student, but the article doesn’t state whether she was or not.
Now I realise that in a position of trust you need to be suspended/sacked for having sex with your own pupils, but, a 23 year old and an 18 year old isn’t in the slightest bit strange or unusual. Hell, try working in the pub industry – a 23 year old and a 17 year old isn’t unusual, or indeed illegal (though I grant many find it odd).
It also seems like he was coerced, if we take his recollection as read (pinch of salt of course), and not the other way around. The pupil didn’t report it as rape/assault from what the news story says, but I’m curious as to why she reported it to a police officer.
If this was rape/sexual assault, a suspension is the least of his worries and he should be arrested and charged.
But if not, seems the school had to follow procedure here, and fair enough, but dragging him through the press and making out like he’s a pedo seems *way* over the line.
EDIT – to note too, a lot of teachers are terrified of this kind of thing. Mate’s brother is a teacher at a high school, was probably in his mid-late 20s at the time this happened. The school was some way away but me and my mate ran into him and his mates on a night out in our local town so we join them for a few beers. He spots two girls and suddenly goes white in the face. They’re pupils at his school – over 18 and in sixth form, but they’ve travelled to this town for some reason. Fair enough, it’s an OK night out compared to where the school is, but it really freaks him out. He’s a good looking bloke, and they start being flirtatious with him. We decided to try another pub but he’s having none of it. Immediately jumps in a taxi, asks his brother to take photos of him getting in the taxi in case he’s accused of anything. Poor bastard was terrified and it ruined his night out.

Honestly, this reads to me like a teacher was raped and has now been fired for it

There is no mention of the girl involved being intoxicated, so does this mean that she technically sexually assaulted him? We’re told that people who are drunk cannot give informed consent.

So we aren’t sure she was even a pupil at the time and he was so drunk he has no recollection of this and she randomly brought it up between 3 and 6 years later? I’m sorry but you’d remember if you weren’t or weren’t a pupil it’s a very key detail. Not to mention why would she say she didn’t want to press charges if she went to the police? Somethings up here, especially now. How can you expect someone to be able to defend themselves when they were black out drunk up to 9 years ago

This seems stupid. He didn’t set out to seduce a student. He didn’t know she was a student. She didnt make a complaint about him. It happened ten years ago. This is a non-event, non-story that should not be being used to ruin a man’s life.

I don’t get why this is a problem if the girl is over 18 and he’s in his early 20s

So an **adult** pupil **willingly** had sex with a teacher and then told the police???
That’s fucking awful, regardless of it being professional conduct or not.

I can’t understand how a man would ever have sex or a relationship with a woman in the UK or the west for that matter. Sex should be made illegal at this point. It’s ridiculous. There’s no case, no wrong doing.

This guy has clearly been seriously sexually assaulted, the equivalent of rape. Listen to his statement:
> “I remember feeling very intoxicated whilst he was chatting to two girls through the window, and I think he offered them a lift home.

Imagine reversing the genders here – if a young man had taken advantage of a woman who was too drunk to recognise him or remember what was going on, I’m pretty sure we’d all be saying she couldn’t consent and it’s rape. So why doesn’t that apply here?
Essentially the guy is being fired and banned from his job for being raped. Which is insane.

How times have changed. Back in my senior school the 40 year(ish) music teacher got a 15 year (current) pupil pregnant. She used to bring it to school, after she left at 16). What I find terrifying now, is that baby is probably old enough to be your (yes you) parent. If your parent was born in ‘85(or thereabouts) in Brum. It could be you…..
The teacher never got into trouble. And was notorious for being very fond of attractive young blond girls. Very fond. Very very fond . All us kids knew his reputation. But oddly parents would still pay him to give one on one music lessons to their children. He would offer. And you guessed it, the kids he would offer special lessons for were attractive blond girls….

wait, she was 18+, not one of his pupils, and he had no reason to suspect she was/had been a student?
this is basically accusing him of being guilty of not being psychic.
also, it sounds very much like he was drunk, she was not…how can he have consented in that state of mind?

I knew a teacher when I went to school who slept with a girl he met in a club then started at my school and found out she was a year 11. Nothing ever came of it. He was a sound guy and I actually played senior football for the local club with him whilst I was in 6th form.
Thinking now the fact I showered with a teacher is a bit odd and I certainly wouldn’t play in a team with a student but that’s a different point.
