Not sure if it was an Asian or European as I didn’t stick around to ask, but it was almost as big as my thumb and sounded like a Chinook. It was really having a go at me while I was hanging washing out.

There is an app called ‘Asian Hornet Watch’ you can upload a photo of any Hornet you spot, and they will tell you if it’s European or Asian Hornet. Also allows them to track the location of the invasive species.

We get a metric shit-tonne of European hornets here – I live in the countryside in E Sussex – but only the odd Asian one. The native ones are far more “holy fuck, there’s a heavily-armoured death machine in my room” than the Asian. They are pretty calm creatures though, despite the brown alert nature of them

Given the express, I half expected this to be about immigration.

Don’t know if European hornet or Asian but we encountered a nest while airsofting
Turns out that if you throw a battered up old car door with a hornet nest in they don’t like it.
some dick decided to throw a car door with a the nest in. Instead of leaving it alone. He threw it across the other side of this trench we was using. we all ran for our lives. He was stung to bits. Multi times, Very serious stuff for him.

There was one in my bedroom about three years ago in The Midlands. It was awesome. When away from their nests, and don’t feel threatened, they’re actually pretty relaxed around humans. They’re not complete bastards like regular wasps. Don’t upset a nest of them, however.

Why did I see this before bed?
If these the same type that caused a panic in China Shaanxi province about 12 years ago they caused 42 deaths and over 1,500 injured.

Obligatory these are “Asian hornets” not “GIANT Asian hornets” which are a different species entirely. The Asian hornet is actually slightly smaller than our native European Hornet.

I think I had one of these in my garage not long ago, made a hell of a fucking noise.

At least it’s not the Japanese Giant Hornet – a long time ago I was walking in woods in Japan when one hovered in front of my face. I’m a full grown man and I shreiked and ran away. They’re terrifying.
I would support tax rises to eradicate them if they came here.

My God, one one these was trying to get in the bathroom window when I was using the lav the other day, sounded like an attack helicopter!
I then heard it buzzing outside the (closed) kitchen window and hour later. What a sound it made
