Its little to do with police cuts. Its just a notoriously hard crime to prove even with evidence. Its generally he said she said which isnt enough for conviction

The processing of evidence being as slow as it is + the general justice system being fucked is absolutely down to cuts but rape is also just an incredibly difficult crime to prove and prosecute in court – generally forensic evidence allows you to know if something happened but not what.

Really? Last year in the met police area it was 9.5%.

“the Government’s pledge to halve violence against women and girls was under threat due to insufficient funding”
So the real issue is that they realised that this virtue signalling ambition is completely unrealistic, so the failure needs to be justified.
People really are too stupid.

Does that included the missed prosecution with the grooming gangs?

And if you were to poll reddit, I bet they would say a much higher percentage for amount of ‘fake accusations’

I was once falsely accused of rape, by the mother of my then partner, not her herself. She was from a highly religious family, and there was shame in having had sex before marriage. What I believed happened was this woman’s mother refused to believe her daughter had committed a sin and assumed the only possible explanation was rape, out of convenience, or moreso an understanding that her mother would never be convinced otherwise, my partner just allowed her mother to believe that. She was genuinely at risk of being ostracised by her family if they ever found out the truth.
I was extremely lucky in that me and this woman had a very close, serious relationship and I trusted her as my partner to say what needed to be said should her parents family actually file a police report.
Nothing ever came of it, but it was an eye opener as to how false accusations come about. For a good while as well it was trial by social media. As soon as the rumour is out there, as a man society just treats you as guilty from the very start, which honestly was a horrific and highly stressful experience.
As someone who’s been on the receiving end of false allegations, and I’m sure there are others out there who probably do not wish to come forward online, I just want other people to understand that there can be very real and very powerful motives for someone to make a false accusation.

Check out the stage play Prima Facie starring Jodie Comer. Eye-opening, devastating and infuriating.
My daughter was sa’d at work four weeks ago, Police have told us it will be at least two years before any court related activity if the CPS decide to pursue the case. We are devastated as a family. Shocked and confused.

The system sucks here, i have soo many friends (children) who had dna evidence and the grown men were still ‘ not guilty ‘

Everyone should read The Secret Barrister, both generally and because they talk about the difficulty in bringing rape and sexual assault convictions specifically to trial, let alone securing a conviction. It is an incredibly difficult crime to prove in many cases and many victims withdraw their case because of fear, or because it is their partner and they are still stuck in the horrific cycle of abuse. Police cuts are part of the issue but it goes far beyond one simple issue.

This stat is always misleading
Cases that reach court have similar conviction rates as other crimes. 65-70% depending on the year.
The problem is many don’t make it to court because a lack of evidence.
This stat is usually thrown about to try and push this narrative that we have a rape culture in the uk because it’s easier to believe that than face the real issue. How do you get evidence for something that often happens between 2 people behind closed doors.
If anyone has an answer to that, please speak up
I’ve been falsely accuse twice and guess what, nothing happened, because I couldn’t prove they were lying, and they couldn’t prove anything

Why is the UK justice/police system so unfathomably slow/shit? Had anyone got a plan to fix it? What would it cost? Would the benefits outweigh the cost?
