I’m looking forward to this being well received everywhere across the media

  2. I’m sure social media will be constructive and level headed with their discussions about this

  3. RawDogger100 on

Anyone have a constructive argument that London is better as result of his tenure?

  4. I fully support Khan but I’m not sure politicians should be getting knighthoods simply for doing their job, even if they do it well as I think it’s the case here.

Like him or not, get elected multiple times as the mayor of a city and it seems like an automatic knighthood that would go unquestioned if we looked back at historical figures. That should be that really. Hilarious that the Tories are criticising this.

I think he’s a mostly good mayor, he’s done well on public transport (despite Covid & WFH financial pressures), pretty good on housing. My only criticism is crime & policing, which is currently the worst I’ve ever known it to be in London in my 3 decades living here.

Once again, I am disappointed that someone has been named as a knight without charging on horseback at a *single* Frenchman.

Does he even have a lance?

  8. SebastianHaff17 on

Pedant question: wouldn’t knighting you make you a sir? i.e. a sir would not be knighted.

  9. Knighthoods are like the Hollywood walk of fame stars nowadays. Not special anymore.

  10. I’ve always thought that knighthoods were for people that went above and beyond, gave more back to the country than they had to, or made great strides in industry or the arts.

As far as I’m aware he just did his job? Quite well by some accounts, but did he actually do anything beyond what’s expected of the mayor of London?

  11. “I’ll forever be honoured to serve the city I love – & will continue to do all I can to build a fairer, safer, greener London for everyone,” he added.

    >announced last month that he’ll be ripping up the greenest parts of London, (one notably being Bromley) to build high rise buildings.

  12. Would like to see the people outraged by this also have the same level of outrage at the likes of Oliver Dowden being knighted too

This should come with a mouth breathers incoming warning.
    Congrats to him though.

Happy for Sir Sadiq, waiting for the reformers to kick off.

    Oh, and then Trump.

So he’s Sir Sir Sadiq? Or was Sadiq Khan Knighted? Not sure of protocol.

Many years ago, you got a knighthood for leading men into battle, hunting down Nazis and saving lives. Also for elevating industries, and providing extraordinary contributions to humanity in the form of invention or humanitarian efforts. Now you just get one if you were quite good at football, or do your job as a politician or civil servant. It’s ridiculous. The knighthood does not carry the weight it once did.

Oh, and this has got nothing to do with him personally, before the tribalists start labelling me a Reform mouth breather or Torygraph reader. It goes for the majority of people who receive this so-called “honour.” The bar has been on the floor for a long time.

Racist northerners in shambles right now, they’ll be going on a bender and posting “London has fallen” on social media all night.

You have to feel for Boris Johnson today, it must be a difficult day for him.

  19. Well deserved and possibly long overdue.

Especially when compared to some of the people that have received knighthoods for god knows what over the years.

  20. North-Writer-5789 on

Sadiq Khan was knighted, he wasn’t Sir until that moment and after, so Sir Sadiq could not be knighted.

  21. martzgregpaul on

Well deserved. Hes done a good job despite the torrent of thinly veiled (or not) racism

  22. Khan has basic technical and administrative competence. I don’t personally think he is a leader or salesman of the calibre required for London. It feels to me like Londons influence has significantly diminished during his term… not necessarily his fault but I look jealously at Andy Burnham

  23. Cool_Bee6976 on

London feels like the only part of the country NOT going to shit, so fair play I guess

  24. The stupidest person you know is shaking in anger over this as you read this comment.

Okay so off topic point if you are comfortable with the idea that Sadiq Khan or anyone else can walk into Buckingham palace as a normal person and then walk out with a different name a title or something else but it is essentially different name legally and you are someone who does not feel comfortable with a trans person doing the same thing except at a court or a legal office you have some questions to ask yourself.
