According to UNFPA’s newly released State of World Population Report, India’s fertility rate has fallen to 1.9 births per woman, which is below the replacement rate of 2.1. Indians are having fewer children than required to maintain their population size across generations. This phenomenon is now affecting the entire developed world as well as a large portion of the developing world.
India’s population is now expected to peak at 1.7 billion in 2065, before starting to decline.

Turns out a lot of women are happy with one or two kids, *or none at all,* when we have a choice. Motherhood is kind of exhausting, y’all.

This is a good thing, the worlds obsession with “growth” isn’t good for anyone, our resources or the planet in general

The fact that the biggest capitalists are telling us how horrible this is makes me feel like I should definitely not care.

It was bound to happen..raising kids, providing them with good education and a quality life is expensive. Even people with wealth are opting to have just 1 or 2 kids .

As an Indian, this is good news. The enormous population puts a lot of pressure on resources and space.

The same people saying this is a good thing will also defend increasing social security taxes lol

Good. There’s already too many people on this planet. I know most estimate expect us to cap out around 11-12 billion or so, but I’d rather not even reach 10. I’m not a crazy self extinction type, but I’m glad people are thinking about these things for once.
And as someone else said, if the elites and capitalists are complaining, it’s not a bad thing. Less people for them to send through the grinder down the line.

As long as all the youth’s money isn’t spent paying for the aging population’s welfare checks, I’m good with declining birth rates.
