Jobs available then I guess if someone doesn’t mind climbing about on house roofs

Still too much for me. £17k install to save around £700 a year on base calculations. I don’t even know if I’ll live long enough to see a return. If I had a electric car it would make the return better, but then I need to invest in the car too…

I’ve being reading about the costs of solar plummeting for the past 15 years.

Despite this, with electricity prices the highest in the world, it still does not make economic sense to invest in solar panels.

    Something doesn’t add up.

Problems are feed in tariffs are so low.

I have solar that was bought outright by the previous owners of my house and the tariff is wonderful and lasts 25 years.

But it brings in about 3k a year..

(Edit) Forgot to add that the tariff is from 12 years ago or more!

Is it better value to have solar if you also run an EV? Would it charge straight to the EV? Is that a daft question?

Octopus quoted me 12k for a 2.5kw system with a 10kwh battery. All my savings relied on me using their overnight prices. If they ever changed their tariff I’d be left dry.

I Bought panels from a guy on ebay for 3k, installed on my garage, a weeks work installing and all the extra parts you need are available online and a sparky to help with the final set up, been working for 24+ months without issues, im looking for a decent battery system now to add to it for winter.

15-22k just too much to pay atm

  8. The biggest factor of this is the solar panels coming down in price massively in the past two years. The prices are going back up now though. I work for an electrical wholesalers and we have been selling solar systems for the past couple of years to our contractors. Two years ago we were paying around £90 for a 405w-410w panel, earlier this year we were now paying £40 for a 430w panel so come down by half in those two years. Earlier this year we were informed that the massive storage holding depot for parts of Europe in Rotterdam was closing down as the Chinese didn’t want to store them there any more and now prices have risen to £45-£50 a panel but around 450w now. The prices for inverters/batteries haven’t really changed much in the past couple of years we pay around £400-£600 for an inverter depending on brand/Kwh rating and around £800-£1000 for a 5kwh battery.
