      1,000 heat deaths are more than offset by the 8,000 or so cold deaths than wouldn’t happen given cold kills 8x more than heat.

      And anything “might” happen. I’ll happily take a bet that the UK never sees 45 degrees.

      If we get 45 degree weather I think our infrastructure might collapse. I don’t think it’s built for extreme temperatures at either end of the spectrum

      When it was 38c a couple of years ago. I had to go home from work due to heat. I work as a mechanic and I have a heat sensitivity as is. I can’t even imagine what I’d be like in that heat. I went to Greece many years ago and it was above 40. I just remember wishing the holiday would end. Havnt been to a hot country since. I’m pretty sure I’d start loosing money in days off work if it got to 45c.

      And you can guarantee there’ll still be some berk going “it’s just a bit of warm weather! It was really hot once in the 70s too, didn’t stop us rioting at football matches and noncing, not like today’s snowflakes!”

      Out of interest, wonder what the “wet bulb” temperature for the UK is generally thought to be, given our overall level of humidity?

      Anyone remember three years ago? Holy hell I’ve never been more happy I had a portable aircon. Was trapped in the house, it was that hot.

      I walked into tescos in Weston-super-Mare yesterday. They had the heaters blowing out hot air above the entry and exit door.

      Feels like Bristol is in a weather anomaly zone… UK is flooded, Bristol is wet. UK is covered in snow, Bristol is just frosty. The UK is melting, Bristol is just pleasant.

      I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, anyone pretending these temperatures are normal are nuts.

      This country isnt built for temperatures around 30 let alone around the 40 ranges.

      If things keep getting warmer and warmer what is it going to be like in 10-20 years?

      Ridiculous that all new builds don’t have to have AC / heat pumps and better insulation. The UK is woefully ill-equipped for hot weather. Summers here are miserable

      As much as I love the heat, the humidity we get here makes anything above 30 degrees pretty uncomfortable.

      With it being a 50/50 chance, there’s just as good odds that we’ll avoid hitting 40 degrees. For now at least.

      In turin two years ago and the car said it was 45, locals were struggling to cope so we are doomed lol

      We’re going to need robots to replace outdoor manual labour at some point. It’ll be approaching the wet bulb temperature limit for humans.

      Those are danger to life temperatures. Going to be a lot of elderly and vulnerable casualties should this happen.

      All sorts of breakdowns but my heart bleeds for the impact on nature. If your life lifts a little for a snippet of bird song or a bee on a flower it is going to be crushed as and when this comes to pass.

      Met Office, the prophets of doom. All they ever do is issue weather warnings, rarely weather forecasts. Everything’s a looming disaster.

      Best to look elsewhere for a weather forecast, unless you enjoy the doom and gloom scenarios.
