Another US forever war in the middle east, after Iraq and Afghanistan you would think Trump would avoid another quagmire. I suspect it will be another dumpster fire and hopefully this time we stay out of it if at all possible.

>Britain has so far stayed out of the Israel-Iran war and is determined not to do anything that could lead to the closure of its embassy in Tehran, a key western diplomatic post in the Middle East.
People here seem convinced Starmer plans to join attacks on Iran, but literally everything he’s done has suggested he wants to stay the fuck out of it.

Why the fuck do we have to always go down this route‽ Literally the whole of my life and I’m 43.
I’m sure at least 70% of the British public don’t want this.
We appear to be broke, we can’t even fix shit concrete in schools or feed kids here. Yet we can find money for a war on the other side of the globe which we do not need to be involved in.
We did this nonsense in the 90s and early 2000s and suffered the consequences afterwards and still today.
We cannot trust America in its current guise.
Whyyyyyyyy. My best mate has a 5 year old. My brother and sister in law will have their first child before the year is out. What are they coming into.
Why can’t the government of this stupid tiny island just stay out of shit, live a peaceful life like Switzerland or somewhere.
Urggggh.

Explain to me how Russia constantly bullying and invading its neighbours and the US constantly destabilising and starting wars in the Middle East are in any way morally different again?
‘Oh but Iran are the BIG EVIL and they HATE THE WEST!’
Yeah well maybe if you picked up a history book you’d see why certain countries like Iran and China hate us (spoilers, they didn’t throw the first punches).

We don’t need to get involved.
Isreal seems to have gained air superiority, so it’s unlikely Iran will be able to win this war as the situation is currently unfolding. Isreal can literally bomb targeted sites in broad daylight, and there is nothing Iran can do to stop them.
Iran has A LOT of missiles, but many of the launchers appear to have been bombed.
Their allies in Syria, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis have all been rendered insignificant, whilst Russia are preoccupied with Ukraine.
This will be the only opportunity to strike the ‘Lion’, fail to do so now, then Iran will regroup and come back stronger.
If the USA uses the bunker busters targeted on the underground nuclear sites, it can only be a good thing for peace in the Middle East.
We do not want an Iran that has nuclear warheads and the capacity to launch them, they are probably the one country that would indiscriminately launch them.
At the same time, the population of Iran are growing increasingly dissatisfied because of Islamic oppression. It would not be a good idea to enforce regime change, but if this happens as a consequence of the current situation (I.e., the leaders appear weak) this may also have positive implications for the middle east.
What’s reassuring is that Isreal has implict support from Egypt, Jordan, Saudia Arabia, and the UAE in their actions.
Trump desires a win and wants to be seen as a ‘peacemaker’ or some sort of hero. The USA would not get involved if Isreal hadn’t advanced so much, in such a short space of time.

Just keep our boys out of this Sir Kier, don’t go down the same road as Tony Blair, we have no need to be in lock step, if iraq and Afghanistan, tell a truth, going to war in the middle east, is just not worth it, let israel and Iran fight it out, and if The USA, wants to go help there fifty first state let them.

History will judge Starmer for how he handles a situation like this more than anything else.
Tony Blair will always be haunted by the Iraq War, whereas one of the things I will always think most fondly about Harold Wilson is that he had the guts to say no to America and keep us out of Vietnam.

I think it was Tony Benn who said something along the lines of “No General has ever said “I’m sorry, we can’t bomb Baghdad today, it’s not in the budget.”.”
I will be marching on the streets of London if we get involved in another Middle East disaster. It’s not fair on our military personnel and it’s not fair on the public whose taxes will go up to pay to bomb a third world country whilst we all get poorer.

People are crying like this means we’re getting involved. That’s yet to be the case.
We’ve prepared with sending assets to protect British bases and interests that are within range of any potential attacks.
That doesn’t mean we are going to join a bombing operation for zero jusitified reason. As it stands it sounds like most senior cabinet members don’t want to get involved.
Briefing the cabinet when a key ally and world super power may be about to shake the hornets nest is standard practice. They’ll be briefed on a multiple scenarios including potential for blowback on the UK.
Let’s also not forget we did recently arrest Iranian nationals who were plotting an attack on UK soil. Let’s also not forget Iran did comandeer and take hostage a British flagged civilian ship a few years ago. Let’s also not forget the UN and other bodies are legitametely concerned about Irans Nuclear enrichment levels.
In short, government is doing standard government things. Hopefully we don’t have to get involved. But if we do, it has to be either to defend our own assets and people, or because there’s credible inteligence on Irans nuclear enrichment being a threat. Obviously that last one has to be built on the most solid of inteligence and we should be looking at quite literally every possible avenue to make sure we aren’t falling into another Iraq situation.

I’m fine with sending jets to defend *our* airbases in case of attack. But I sincerely hope we don’t get dragged into this by the US.
If we get involved, then Labour is essentially flushing the next election down the toilet.

Fighting other people’s wars in the Middle East is why 7/7 happened. Committing to a war with Iran will kill innocent civilians and our soldiers. But our lives don’t matter as much as Israel’s right to self defense. That’s what our leaders think.

War = Refugees.
Perhaps the people waging the war, should host the refugees? Probably see a lot less warfare if that was the policy.
