Just to add that the ban is being rolled out across the uk (possibly because of the Single Market Act?). From [April last year](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-wide-ban-on-wet-wipes-containing-plastic-to-be-put-into-law), “Defra intend to bring forward the legislation for England ahead of summer recess, with Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales following by the autumn as part of an aligned approach to bring the ban into force”
Does this include baby wipes? If so thats a shocker
Good. Insane that we are doing so little to stop the excessive production of single use plastics.
It’s infuriating we waste so much time assessing this shit. It’s clearly bad for the environment. The world doesn’t *need* plastic wet wipes. They’re a menace and just another example of corporations creating wasteful products nobody asked for or needed. Just fucking ban them already. And anything else like this.
Fuck, I need these for medical reasons, the paper ones suck.
Edit: turns out the ones I use are plant based.

You shouldn’t need to ban it. Companies should intend to bring these products to market and the government should be able to look at these on a case by case basis and decide that it’s not acceptable. Otherwise we will end up “banning” everything plastic which seems like a massive waste of time to do it in that way
How come alot of these wipes still have ‘flushable’ on the packaging?
As a parent, the plastic free ones are absolutely fine.
Someone with a deeper understanding of policy than me, why do we have to wait for these to be banned? Is it to give the private companies time to plan, or are there administrative/legislative processes that slow things down?
I don’t know why everything hasn’t gone biodegradable by now, like wet wipes and earbuds. Surely degradable paper is cheaper to produce than plastic?

This is a good move, and something that should’ve been done a while ago given the damage to the environment and plumbing. Is there any way to tell if wipes you have at present are plastic/paper/plant based? A quicker and cheaper way to implement this years ago should’ve been for the material to be stated clearer on the packaging, as at the moment I’ve no idea if wipes I see in the store are going to be banned or not.
Thats great and all. It should have been done a long time ago, but I feel like they are worrying about the wrong things given the state of this country at the moment 😕
