It’s been rumoured that something like 150 MPs initially wanted to rebel, that’s more than one third of all Labour MPs. But I think most of them will end up abstain or vote for under whip pressure. That being said, I think a few more ministers, particularly junior ones, will resign for this vote.

Good for her. I doubt even 1 in 10 will rebel and she actually quit a respected and important position in protest.

    >One Labour MP, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the BBC: “I have heard anyone who breaks the whip won’t be allowed to stand as a Labour MP at the next general election.

    >”These threats are just making people more angry. We cannot continue to govern in this manner. Quite frankly, if that’s his [the prime minister’s] view he’s lost the plot and is a bully.”

Seeing Labour doing this shit after the previous Conservative government relied on it to avoid falling apart makes me genuinely question if we are a democracy. Completely taking away the chance for people to have their voices heard by threatening to sack their representatives if they don’t toe the line is not democratic behaviour.

  4. Where do labour politicians like this want the cuts to come from? And the answer can’t be ‘no cuts’.

  5. Will get downvoted to hell, but I don’t think the surge in PIP claims is wholly merited.

I don’t know what the perfect method is for sorting the valid claims from the rest – probably not this though
