Currently there is a controversy about Donald Trump’s director of the presidential personnel Office Sergio Gor, who claims to be born in Malta. But apparently there is a suspicious lack of evidence supporting this.
Do you think he could be Maltese? From his looks, his name, his biography?

Best part IMO:
> Gor, whose full name is Gorokhovsky, … declined to reveal his place of birth, stating only that he ‘was not from Russia’.
Assolutament le. Di marda Amerikana li għax ikunu ġenetikament minn pajjiż jassoċjaw lilhom infushom ma’ dak il-pajjiż, minkejja li jkunu kulturalment Amerikani. Dawk li jixtru l-passaport u jużawh biex iħammġu isimna l-Maltin inqas u inqas.
Lanqas lil Pete Buttiġieġ ma nqis Malti. Missieru Malti kien iva, però hu Amerikan.
He looks about as Maltese as a true born son of Novgorod.

It looks like he may have moved to Malta with his parents at the age of around 3. So he may not have been born in Malta but he was brought up in Malta.
No. Kull min jghin il-Trump haqqu l-forka
His name and his looks say no.
born and bred in Malta
I’d say that his parents moved to Malta when he was young, helping him to learn and speak Maltese well. A colleague of mine who is Russian had moved to Malta with her family at a young age. Her Maltese is as good as a native speaker’s I’d say, but if you listen closely enough to her accent you can tell that Maltese isn’t her 1st language. If you listen closely to Sergio in the YouTube video you can hear certain intonations in his voice that give away that Maltese isn’t his 1st language, despite being a very proficient speaker.
Moved here as a kid and lived in Bormla
