Submission statement: think about how children’s brains have been messed up by social media. How do you think it’s going to be affected by AI Barbies?
How do you think social skill development will be affected by always having available a toy that is programmed to only care about your well-being and doesn’t have any rights or interests of their own?
Could this lead to an increase in narcissism and social skill deficits?

Children desperately need boundaries and structure. AI is confirmation bias on demand. This is going to be disastrous.

Adding AI to toys is along the lines of of banning phone use while driving then putting giant tablet screens in cars to operate them.
So.fucking.dumb.

Oh my god YES absolutely let’s give the Enabler Bots to the children! They don’t know anything else, it’ll be like if your imaginary friend was really there! And never went away! They’ll be able to talk to the bot about things they’re thinking or wondering about, and the bot will be right there, a wonderful chaperone for the little tots as their minds learn to navigate this challenging world we live in.
Who knows, maybe some people will put custom AIs trained on specialized knowledge they want their kids to know in there. Imagine the skill of an engineer or politician who is trained from the cradle by a skilled, trusted friend! Why, one could only dream of having such a strong and experienced mentor helping you along your destined path.
And maybe one day these can double as actual chaperones- units designed to be the new smartphone and security expert. The world is a dangerous place for the littles, and an obvious solution is to have their cuddly friend also be their staunchest ally and protector. Dawn to dusk security from a friend that’s always awake. Brilliant.
The future looks so bright I just might need to gouge my eyes out with my fingers.
