Amazon’s second batch of Kuiper internet satellites reached low Earth orbit on Monday, adding to its plans for a massive constellation and ramping up competition with SpaceX’s Starlink.

A United Launch Alliance rocket carrying 27 Kuiper satellites lifted off from a launchpad at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 6:54 a.m. ET, according to a livestream.

  2. Ah yes, more star trash that is polluting our only way to enter / exit the planet. What could go wrong, especially since it’s in the hands of maniacs.

I don’t understand why Jeff keeps repeating what Elon did in space industry, from reusable rockets to moon landers to satellite Internet. Come on.

  4. Lockheed + Boeing + amazon taking on SpaceX?
I guess they have a slim chance of competing

Wonder who’s going to pay to clean up the space junk someday. Something tells me it won’t be Amazon or SpaceX. Hopefully the government requires them to have a legitimate workable plan for bringing down old satellites before they let them fill up the sky with them

Edit: sounds like they do have to have a plan. Good job government! See, everyone, government regulation doing its job.

  6. Yeah the amount of space junk in 20 years will be insane but at least shooting stars will be everywhere.

  7. We are going to end up with so much junk in space, we will planet lock ourselves and never be able to safely get past the debris field we create.

Are these just going to end up being our “surveillance for every square inch of the planet” satellites

  10. So now every other company from every country puts thousands of satellites into orbit just for internet connection?

  11. >The satellites took a ride on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket.

Still havent made it to Orbit yet have you Jeff..

  12. Can we talk about “Kuiper” being about the worst possible name for low earth orbit satellites? At that point why not Interstellar or Intergalactic or Hyperspace or…

“Second batch” and “taking on Starlink” are you fn kidding me? Cmon meow

  14. Creative_Impulse on

This is some Cyberpunk post-Blackwall dystopia stuff. Only Corps have an internet and it is all segregated. Yikes.

  15. This is great and very welcomed as competition is very important but it will take time for them to provide a service in any meaningful capacity and spacex is close to deploying starlink v3 AND getting starship to lower costs significantly. They have one hell of a battle to fight here.

  16. Like we need even more satellite pollution clogging up earth orbit and the night skies. Sure wish regulation would catch up with this kind of stuff.

  17. Copy cat who can’t conceive of anything original to do like partnering with and co-operating with, instead intends to compete and fail whilst adding to to oribalt congestion over head.

I just wonder who gave these fucks permission to litter up the sky like they have. It is literally impossible to enjoy looking at the night sky anymore without seeing a string of white dots moving across it every fifteen minutes.

It’s like rich people tossing garbage into national parks. Nothing beats the Zion Narrows full of “washing machines”!
