I’m not sure this illustrates Zipf’s law, which is about word frequencies. Instead, Zipf’s law and your file sizes are both examples of **power law distributions**.
Power law distributions are common in nature. One famous example is the Pareto principle (20% of people are responsible for 80% of productivity). Another example is wealth distribution (a small proportion of people hold most of the wealth). Another example is personal finance (a few major expense categories, like rent, food, and insurance, account for a disproportionate amount of costs).
