Whats the point of even having a written contract if this is in it?
I know this is just something to cover their ass when they need something, but i cant be the only one who sees it scummy?

Yes quite common in Malta. Bascially you have to do what the employer tells you to do irreverent what is written in the job description. In some countries it’s actually illegal.

Not scummy at all. As an employee you are subject to the rules and policies of the company and the company may change and update its business policies as it deems fit, as long as it does not fundamentally change your conditions of employment (ie hours, compensation)

That is a unilateral change of employment conditions (not policies, as the clause you shared indicates) and illegal.
