Article to give this thread a sense of proportion. IDF soldiers admit to an Israeli newspaper they were ordered to shoot at starving people waiting for food. So far, about 500 people have been murdered queueing for aid. It would be easy to follow this up with plenty of links showing a wide range of atrocities, but I felt this being in Hareetz gave it solid legitimacy.

There is a reason people are angry, and say these things. It is relevant to the UK because our government provides weapons and training to the people who deliberately shoot children and burn people alive while sleeping in tents in refugee camps.

Edit- united nations report on the deaths at aid stations, more have been killed since this was written.

  3. Free Palestine, and fuck the IDF.

I do not think that chants about “Death to X” are acceptable. I mean that word literally – they should not be accepted.

There is a point when tensions can be escalated beyond where everyone thinks they should be. 99% of people chanting this don’t mean it in the literal sense, but if we carry on getting swept away in normalising what is literally calls for violence then you’re lighting a powderkeg.

You have to check yourself often to make sure your rhetoric is not becoming overblown beyond what you actually believe, because the least reliable and most unhinged members of the set of people who are on your side will do something dangerous that you do not want and do not support happening.

You cannot blame Tommy Robinson, or Donald Trump, or JK Rowling, for “contributing to an environment that led to [someone being murdered]”, but also chant “Death, Death to the IDF”.

Artist on stage at Glastonbury makes edgy/on the nose remark about current goings on in the world?

    Next up, water = wet.

Ffs, Glastonbury has its origins in counterculture and groups like CND. Ofcourse there might be some strong words about Israel and what they are doing which by all accounts is fucking atrocious at this point. If I were a betting man I’d say Bob Vylan probably said what he did with the intention of getting this reaction.

    lol downvotes

  5. > Furious comments flooded in on social media

The sun really scraping the bottom of the barrel here to give this story legs

  6. whats funny about this is the BBC swerved away from showing kneecap to show this instead LOL

  7. This is bad, but not really that bad considering the literal tens of thousands of deaths that the IDF is responsible for in the real world in the last couple of years. Anyone clutching pearls over this and remaining silent about the Israel military’s actions in Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Iran really needs to have a word with themselves.

  8. Bob Vylan is great, I’m pretty sure he’s well on his way to getting blacklisted by every single festival but he’s gonna be god damn punk while doing it

  9. Why should anyone care about any insincere outrage on behalf of a foreign army which has killed 50,000+ civilians but who believes that a chant against them sincerely crosses a moral line?

  10. Come gather round, people

Tell me who is to blame

When my imposter/tribute couldn’t spell my name

Got the organisers cross that I never came

But the crowd is clearly ragin’

And the tension’s like gas to an eternal flame

Oh the times they are a-changin’
